Information: The Warren Hills Cemetery is on the western outskirts of the City of Harare. The cemetery is an Harare City Council (Department of Housing and Community Services) maintained grave yard. There is a Jewish graveyard, that may probably have opened in 1968. During the liberation war for independence, this grave yard was the principal place for military and semi military funerals and cremations in then Salisbury, Rhodesia. This was one of the premier, elegant and dignified resting places of Zimbabwe in its day. The cemetery is now closed, having run out of burial space, although provision is being made for burials of Zimbabwe's liberation war veterans at this cemetery.
Warning: Gravestone Maintenance: Please note carefully that there have been instances of persons soliciting funds for gravestone maintenance and cleaning. Not all of these persons are well intended, and reports are being received of relatives parting with their money and then finding the 'grave cleaner' is nowhere to be found and the grave remains derelict.
Assistance Sought: Presently looking for volunteers to photograph both gravestones and memorial plaques in the Warren Hills Cemetery. Message Field-4274.
Research Leads Sought: Occasionally, gravestone photography will identify people whose antecedents are not clear, or need additional basic information for a profile. We list names, seeking leads as to their proper identity, further details and and antecedents:
If you know any of the above and have further details please contact the person seeking information.
