Waterloo Township was orginally a part of Athens Township. It was organized in April of 1826. The first white settler in the area was Moses Hewitt. The second family was that of Abram Fee. Third was Ezekiel Robinett and fourth was Col. William Lowry. About 1836, a number of families from Morgan and Muskingum Counties, Ohio settled in the township. Among those are the families of James Mayhugh, Samuel Allison, Lewis Davis, Hugh Boden, William and Joseph Johnson, Robert Cotton, and Daniel McCoy.
