The Westbere Butts was a pub on Island Road in Sturry, Kent, England. It later became an Indian restaurant, since abandoned, and is now set for demolition.[1]
Known license transfers:
- 5 Sept 1903: “Mr. Godden (Messrs. Rigden) applied for the licence of the Westbere Butts, Westbere, to be transferred from Mrs. Emma Bentley to Frederick Luckhurst, and the Bench allowed the application.”[2]
- 3 Feb 1904: “Mr. Gerald Mercer applied for the renewal of this licence. Superintendent Jacobs said the late tenant was convicted for selling adulterated spirits. The licence had been transferred from Emma Bentley to Frederick Luckhurst, and the the house was now well conducted. The Magistrates renewed the licence.”[3]
- 11 Mar 1936: “The licence of ‘The Westbere Butts,’ Westbere, was temporarily transferred from Mr. Ambrose V. L. Hogbin to Mr. Michael J. Lynch.”[4]

- 30 Aug 1897: “William Davey, hawker, Canterbury, pleaded guilty to assaulting George Hancock, landlord of the ‘Westbere Butts,’ on the 18th inst...”[6]
