The ship Mount Vernon made four whaling voyages from Nantucket between 1832 and 1848, returning over 11,000 barrels of sperm oil. She lost whaleboats and spars during a gale three days out from Nantucket in 1844, returned to Nantucket to be refitted, and sailed again to complete her last voyage as a Nantucket whaling ship. The Mount Vernon was sold to Mattapoisett in 1848.
