- In 1808 he [ Edward Mainwaring (1736-1825)] ... granted to Hugh Henshall Williamson a 31 years’ lease, at a nominal rent, of certain lands at Biddulph for the purpose of making an Iron Railway there.[1]

Whitmore station opened onto the Grand Junction Railway in 1837. It was at Baldwins Gate village near the edge of Whitmore Parish.
