Semester 2, 2023
Our focus for Semester 2, 2023 is a deeply meaningful endeavour: the Pick a Soldier, Plant a Tree Project, dedicated to commemorating the Missing soldiers from World War One.
The Project:Anzacs Project have embarked on a mission to honour the 338,000 Allied soldiers who were reported as missing during the war, their bodies never found. Through the Pick a Soldier, Plant a Tree Project, we aim to contribute by focusing on those missing ANZAC's that are connected to the township of Whittlesea and surrounds. In total Over 300 men from the Shire of Whittlesea enlisted during WWI.
While our focus is sombre, we approach it with utmost respect and reverence. Throughout the semester, we will organize a series of speakers and workshops that will provide us with valuable insights into the historical context of World War One and the lives of the missing soldiers. These sessions will help us better understand the importance of our mission and the significance of commemorating these courageous individuals.
As we navigate this emotional journey together, we invite you to participate wholeheartedly. Your involvement can make a real difference in preserving the memory of these brave souls. Let's come together to honour their sacrifice by creating online family trees and biographies in their memory.
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding this focus topic, please don't hesitate to reach out. We value your input as we strive to create a welcoming, collaborative, and respectful environment for all members of our Family History Group.
Let us embark on this poignant journey together, paying tribute to the Missing ANZAC soldiers of World War One through our collective efforts in the Pick a Soldier, Plant a Tree Project. Join us as we strive to bring closure and honour the memories of these courageous individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We will continue to update the schedule below as we finalize our plans. Be sure to check this page for the latest information on speakers, workshops, and other events related to the Whittlesea Community House Family History Group.
