I have two brick walls. My great-great grandmother and my great-great grandfather were born in Ireland and died in Canada. I am looking for the records of their parents.

My great-great grandmother is Margaret (Bonner) Creighton (1799-1881) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bonner-1877 and my great-great grandfather is Abraham Creighton Senior (1798-1873) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Creighton-963.

Children (or possible children) of Abraham and Margaret

• John J Creighton (Possible child or other relative) b abt 1825, Donegal, Ireland.
  • Married to Ann Trimble b. abt 1828 Ireland. Married _____ .
  • Not with parents and siblings on 1851 census in Scotland. Maybe in Canada. In the 1851 census there is a John "Crighton" (age 27) a Shoemaker born in Ireland, was in Sydenham, Grey (county), Canada West (Ontario), which is east of the village come town of Owen Sound.^[1] Included are children Margaret 3 and Mary Ann 1 year, and a 13 year old girl Margaret Tremble (same surname as wife's maiden name). There is also 2 Apprentices and 2 Shoemakers who have different surnames. No Abraham (brother) in household.
  • Find on 1861 census.
  • An advertisement for John Creighton, Boot and Shoe Maker appeared in the Directory section of the Owen Sound Comet on the 28th of June 1851 in Owen Sound, Ontario. That ad was taken out on the 20 June 1851.^[2] Other ads continued in subsequent newspapers found in 1854 and 1860.^[3][4]

  • Married Ann Anderson: Abraham Crichton marriage to Ann Anderson, 6 Dec 1846 in Barony, Lanarkshire RD, found on ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk entry FRS194 Ref 190/149. This record may provide other information about parents.
  • Children: Christina b.1849,
  • Occupation Shoemaker: Abraham Creighton was in a directory in 1887 in Ontario.^[5]
  • Not with parents and siblings on 1851 census in Scotland. Wife and daughter Christina are with his parents. Christina's birth registration was not found in Scotland.

Research Notes

• Birth/Baptism and marriage for subjects has not been found. Census records indicate they were born in Ireland. Their first 3 children were also born there. Based on the birthplaces for James and Sarah the family left Ireland between 1832 and 1835. If John who is in Owen Sound in 1851 is their son, and he was born about 1824 in Ireland, then Abraham and Margaret would have been married about 1823 and most likely in Ireland.
• Earliest verifiable record is 1851 census in Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Two eldest sons did not appear with them on that census.
  • No church records found in Ireland or Scotland for their children.

Hypothesis

1. Two eldest sons migrated to Canada sometime between 1848 and 1851.

• Story by Robert Crichton "12-Year old walks to Owen Sound" in 1851. Does not mention any other family members by name. May be related. This might be him on the 1851 Census
