FOUND! Through the magic of DNA, I was able to triangulate between two strong yet unfamiliar matches who had common ancestors between them. After aligning their respective trees according to their known relationship and consulting a genetic cousin chart to determine their likely relationships to me, a common ancestor for all of us emerged: Ronald James Laws!

My father, Stephen Blanchette (originally Stephen Prudent Rufen-Blanchette), was born in 1933 in Martinique to Stephanie Rufen-Blanchette. No father was listed on his birth certificate. At the time, Stephanie had been traveling back and forth between her homeland in Fort-de-France in Martinique and New York City (where several family members had already immigrated). My father did not know his father's name. So, who are you Grandpa? Did grandma meet you in NYC or Martinique? Were you ships that passed in the night? Were you in a relationship that didn't endure? Were you simply conducting a business transaction (I'm not judging)? Perhaps you're one of my great-uncles (My father had three sisters--Georgette, Josiane, and Suzanne; the story I recall from childhood is that they each had different fathers). Whoever you are, please stand up and be counted.

SOLVED! By comparing trees of strong DNA matches from Ancestry.com and MyHeritage.com who had common ancestors between them, and comparing the relationships against a genetic cousin chart, one individual slots perfectly into my grandfather's position: Ronald James Laws.
