This is a list of possible future enhancements for the WikiTree AGC browser extension.

  • Add an option to abbreviate location names in the narrative text. For example place names ending with "England, United Kingdom" could be abbreviated to end with "England". Note this does not apply to data fields which should always be a full name, it applies to the narrative text and the intention would be to make it flow/read better.

The last option in WikiTree AGC named "For female profiles, if the Current Last Name is LNAB but there are marriages and the last husband's name is known then change the CLN to that." should not be active for Swedish profiles before 1901. Almost all females keept their patronymicon or any family name after marriage before the new name law in 1901.

Maybe applies to more countries, espacially other Nordic countries.

Minor feature request:

In my GEDCOM imports from RootsMagic, it includes the following for profiles which are associated with an Ancestry tree:

AMTID <profile id>:1030:<tree id>.

It would be great if you could incorporate the same functionality that's already there for the FamilySearch profile IDs and auto format that to an Ancestry link, which I'm doing manually for now.

Also, have you considered opening up the extension for collaborative development? I have coding experience and would be happy to help out. :-)

Thanks Beth,

I have added that to my list.

AGC is open for collaborative development but it is a funny state right now. I have incorporated the code from the AGC extension into the new WikiTree Browser Extension. But, because the WBE doesn't yet work in Safari I still have the standalone AGC extension available. So the code is duplicated in two places. Because of this I'm holding off on making any changes to the AGC code until WBE is on Safari.

If you are interested in contributing, the first step would be to fork the WBE on github and play around with it: https://github.com/wikitree/wikitree-browser-extension

Thanks for this tool - it looks like it has great potential usefulness.

One question/potential suggested update:

I tried the AGC on one of the Dyer gedcom profiles I am working on today William Champlin Burrage. It includes a marriage data item that links to a span id

Marriage: 12 JUN 1906
Place: Providence, Providence, Ri
Source: #S28
Page: 20:298

The span id reference was listed thus:

Source <span id='S28'>S28</span>
Title: Vital Records of Rhode Island, 1636-1930 (database online) Orem, UT: Ancestry, Inc. 2000
Abbreviation: Vital Records of Rhode Island, 1636-1930 (database online) Orem, UT: Ancestry, Inc. 2000
Note: Providence Births 1636-1920, Providence Marriages 1851-1920, Providence Deaths 1636-1930, Bristol County - Barrington, Bristol, and Warren, Kent County - Coventry, East Greenwich, Warwick, and West Greenwich, Richmond, South Kingstown, and Westerly.
NS401323
Source Media Type: Electronic
Master Listing Source: Y

After AGC ran, the marriage was listed in the issues to be investigated section (appropriately - it's probably a marriage for the parents)

But the source was listed as below:

  • Title: Vital Records of Rhode Island, 1636-1930 (database online) Orem, UT: Ancestry, Inc. 2000. Abbreviation: Vital Records of Rhode Island, 1636-1930 (database online) Orem, UT: Ancestry, Inc. 2000. Note: Providence Births 1636-1920, Providence Marriages 1851-1920, Providence Deaths 1636-1930, Bristol County - Barrington, Bristol, and Warren, Kent County - Coventry, East Greenwich, Warwick, and West Greenwich, Richmond, South Kingstown, and Westerly. NS401323. Source Media Type: Electronic. Master Listing Source: Y

Notice that the span ID reference that was in the original was removed and there is no way to connect the data to the source after AGC ran. Is there a way to keep the span ID so that I can easily determine which source goes with which piece of data?

In the example noted here, it's no big deal. There is only one piece of data and one source. But many of the Dyer profiles have 5 or more span id references and each reference might be referenced more than one time.

So if I run AGC, I lose the ability to tell which source is associated to which data item.

Is there a way to at least keep the gedcom span id # in the source listing. The source listing is not in a standard format anywat, so it still has to be reformatted during cleanup,. Seems to me that one more bit of non-standard data shouldn't hurt.

Or just leave the sources in their span id format?

Thanks for the good work. I will start using on easier cases

Sally
