This is the Free Space page for organizing the 2023 WikiTree Secret Santa Challenge !

The WikiTree Secret Santa Challenge will take place once again in 2023! Registration for wishes and to be an elf opened up as of Saturday December 9th, and details were revealed on the Saturday RoundUp LiveCast the same day. The deadline to sign up - either as an elf or to add your wish - is December 23rd, 11:59pm EST (midnight)

The official beginning of the Secret Santa Challenge happens after the Saturday Round Up LiveCast of the Week is over, and will kick off with a Zoom meeting of all the Elves on Saturday December 23rd at 12 noon, Eastern Standard Time (5pm UTC / 1700h UTC). The challenge continues until January 5th, 2024 (midnight EST), and the results will be revealed on the Saturday RoundUp LiveCast of January 6th, 2024.

Baron Frederick Augustus de Zeng was the second son of Baron de Zeng, of Rueckerswalde-Wolkenstein, near Marienberg, in Saxony, Lord Chamberlain to the Duchess of Saxe-Weissenfels, and High Forest-Officer to the King of Saxony, by his wife, Lady Johanna Phillipina von Ponickau, of Altenberg." However, I was not able to determine Thomas' Irish parents names. All U.S. records found lacked information on parents and origin. I have ordered a death certificate which will hopefully name Thomas Carr's parents.

I have a solid secondary source (a published county history) which provides his birthplace and parents' names. This takes us back to his likely family of origin, but I don't have the exact connection yet. I've been dealing with 1830 and 1840 federal census records here, so disambiguation was a challenge. I noted two men who were of the right age to be Joseph's father as possible leads, but still no evidence of Joseph's father's name. Winchell and Cornelia Merrill. Based on they lived in close proximity to Sarah and her husband's family from 1840 forward. Samuel is noted to be buried in the same cemetery as the Horning family in this same Alabama, Genesee County, NY community. Didn't locate a will or probate for Samuel. I identified a potential father, but haven't yet found a good source (or group of well-analyzed sources) connecting him to Asa. More research is needed in original records not found online. I left lots of notes on the profile to aid future researchers. I feel this brick wall is breakable using advanced research methodologies and offline records, but could not break it with the records available to me online.

1. Santa's Elf Status: Emma MacBeath This is very doable with DNA. Checking to see if I can get access.I now have DNA access. I was unable to find the answer due to lack of Turner DNA, but sent a clue to Cliff that Rebecca is related to John Holliday Turner, probably through John's parents. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Turner-49441 The problem is I couldn't find out who John's parents are and most trees have the wrong ones. Find the parents, find siblings of John, find the kids of those siblings, and you'll probably find Rebecca's dad who was likely named Charles Turner per the death records of two of her siblings.
