This is a transcription of the filed will of Abraham Newell, fisherman of Barking, Essex. It was written on 7 December 1582 and proved at the Court of the Archdeaconry of Essex on 15 December 1582. [1]

In the name of God Amen the vijth daie of December 1582
and in the xxvth yere of the Raigne of o[ur] sov[er]aign[e] Lady
quene Elizabeth &c / I Abrah[a]m Newell of the p[ar]ish of
Barking in the Countie of Essex Fisherman being sicke
in body, but of p[er]fecte mynde & remembrannce prayse be
therfore gyven to almightie god, Do make & ordeyne
this my p[re]sente Testament & laste will in mann[er] &
forme following that is to say, First & principally I
comende my soule into thand[es] of Almightie god my
creato[r] & redeemer trusting assuredly by the merrit[es]
death & passion of Jesus christ to have full & clier
remission pardon & forgyvenes of all my synnes &
comytt my body to thearth to be buried in the Church
yarde of Barking aforsaid[e] nere the place where my
first wife lieth buried Item I gyve & bequeth to my
Daughter Mawdlyn Newell my best Cupborde w[i]th
A presse therein standing in the hall to be to her
delyv[er]ed by my executors hereunder menconed at the
daie of her marriage provyded alwaies & my will &
mynde is that the said Mawdlyn upon receipte of the
for said Cupborde shall truly pay or cause to be paid to
her sister Sara Newell the som[m]e of Tenne shilling[es]
of lawfull money of England . The residue of all &
sing[u]ler my good[es] moveables to unmovables I holly gyve will
& bequeth the same to my loving Wife Elizabeth
Newell whome I make my soule & only Executrix of
this my p[rese]nte Testament & laste will & she to
receyve my Debts & to pay my Debts & to bring my body
honestly to the grounde / And fynally I do make ov[er]seers
of this my p[rese]nte Testament John Preison S[...]vaner &
Titus Bacon desiring them herein to se my will fully
p[er]formed & to be [...]ding to my Executrix aforsaid / & I
