In the Name of God amen. The 17 day of February 1769. I Abraham Saul of the County of Edgecombe & Province of North Carolina & Saint Mary's Parish am in perfect health & proper senses which I thank Almighty God for the same ... I do make & devise this as my last will & Testament in manner & form following first & Principaly I Recommend My soul into the hands of God that gave it me & my body to be Desently Buried at the discretion of my Executors whome I shall hereafter appoint & as for what worldly goods it hath Pleased God to Endue me with after my just Debts & funeral charges be paid ... I dispose of them in manner & form following. ---
- Item - I give & bequeath to my dear & loving Grandson Abraham Saul two hundred & seventeen acres of land ... [described] ... together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging ... to him and his Heirs forever. ---
- Item - I give devise & bequeath the remaining part of the before mentioned tract...two hundred & sixteen acres, To my Loving Grandson Absalom Sauls & his Heirs forever.
- Item - I lend to my Loving wife Ann Saul During her widowhood two Negros Viz. Tom & Phillis and after her marriage or Decease my will & meaning is that Tom may Revert & be to my loving Grandson Abraham Saul & his heirs forever I likewise give to ... Abraham Saul one Negro called Milley to him and his heirs forever.
- Item - I give & bequeath to my Loving Grandson Absalom Saul after Marige or Decease of my ... wife that Phillice & her increase may Revert & be to my said Grandson Absalom Saul & his Heirs forever. I likewise give to my ... Grandson Absalom Saul one Negro Boy called Peter to him and his heirs for Ever.
- Item - I give & bequeath to my Dear Loving Grand Daughter Mary Saul one Negro Boy Named Bob [?] and to the heirs of her body Lawfully begotten & for default of such heirs then to my Right heir at Law. ---
- Item - I give & bequeath to my Grand Daughter Darcas Saul one Negro wench called Jude & the heirs of her body Lawfully begotten & for default of such heirs then to my Right Heir at Law. ---
- Item - I give & bequeath to my Son in Law Henery Scrues my still & all thereto belonging. ---
- Item - I give & bequeath to my Daughter in Law Mary Scrues fifteen Pounds six shillings & eight pence Proclamation Money Now in the hands of Thomas Donton with the Lawfull intrest Arising thereon. ---
- Item - I give to my Grandson Abraham Saul one feather bed & furniture one pair of Iron wedges & two Large Puter Dishes & one hand saw. ---
- Item - I give to my Grandson Absalom Saul one feather bed & furniture & all & every of my Plantation Utencels I likewise give [him] two small Puter Dishes & six deep Puter Plates. ---
- Item - I lend to my ... wife for & during her life or widowhood all the remaining Part of my Estate also the Estate of her former Husband that is now in my care & Imeadately after Marage or Deceas my Will & meaning that my Part of it May be seperated from the former & equaly Divided Between my fore Grand Children Abraham Saul Absalom Saul Darcas Saul & Mary Saul.
- My will & Pleasure is that my loving wife Ann Saul & John Jones Sen. & Davis Connele may stand & be my True & Sole Ex'ers. To this my Last will & Testament in Witness whereof I have hereto set my & seal the Day & Year firs above written. ---
