Transcribed Text of Will

In the name of God Amen, I Ann Lee of the County of Bertie and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory do this second day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven make and ordain this my last will and testament in the following manner.

(viz)

I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Powell the sum of four dollars to her and her heirs forever

I give and bequeath to my son Henry Lee my negro boy Joshua to him and his heirs forever

I give and bequeath to my son William H Lee the sum of four hundred dollars to be raised out of my estate to him and his heirs and assigns forever

I give and bequeath to my sons Henry Lee, William H Lee and Joseph B Lee my negroes Blake Bryant George Annis Patsey Jack Fanny Sarah Jennet Franny Cherry Cawton Caroline Penny and Jesse with their increase to be equally divided amongst them each one to share alike to them their heirs and assigns forever

I give and bequeath to my son William H Lee all my household and kitchen furniture of every description with all my stock of horses cattle sheep and hogs also all of my crops of every sort not before given away by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever

Lastly I constitute my son William H Lee my Executor to this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written

This last will and testament of Anna Lee dec'd was exhibited in open court & duly & legally proved by the subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered registered. At the same time William H Lee the executor therein named appeared in open court & was duly qualified as such
