Edmonde Williams

This is a transcription of the Consistory Court of Gloucester will of Edmond Williams (abt.1560-1589) written on the 2 October 1589 'Edmond's estate passed probate on 11 February 1589/90 in Wotton under Edge.[1]

France and Ireland Defend[o]r of the faithe &c I Edmonde Willyams of wotton und[e]r
Edge in the countie and Dioc[ese] of Glouc[ester] beinge sicke in bodie but hoole in mynde and of good
and p[er]fecte remembrannce (thanks be geven to God) Doe make and ordeyne this my
p[re]sente Testamente conc[er]nynge herin my Laste will in man[ne]r & forme followinge that
is to saie Firste I com[m]itte my soule into thandes of Allmightie God my Creator trusting
onelie in his m[er]cie to be saved by the meryts and Deathe of his dere sonne Jesu Christe
my Alone sufficient saviour and redemer and my bodie to be buryed in Christian

w[hi]ch I boughte Laste my best brasse pott my best Chaffendishe and also my other
brode Lome w[i]th thapp[ur]t[a]n[a]nces p[ro]vyded alwaies that Katheryn my wieff shall have
the use of the said Laste recyted brode lome w[i]th thapp[ur]t[a]n[a]nces fro[m] the daie of my
decease duringe the terme of her naturall Lieff thother brode Lome w[i]th thapp[ur]t[a]n[a]nces
the said John (my sonne) to have & ynioye the same ymediatlie after my decease

Item I give & bequethe unto Johanne, Agnes and Denise my daught[er]s and to
ev[er]y of them thole some of Fower poundes of good Currant money of Englande and
one Charger and one Candlesticke A peece the beste / w[hi]ch said somes and more is
nowe remayninge in thands of Thom[a]s Hopton And w[hi]ch said sev[er]all somes my
will and mynde is shalbe paied to my said Daught[e]rs at their sev[er]all Ages of xxjth
years or sev[er]all Daies pf their marriadge if before that tyme they shall fortune
to be marryed

Item I give and bequethe to my said sonne John Will[ia]ms
Twentie Shillings in money to be payed to hym at thage of xxjth yers p[ro]vided
allwaies and my will and mynde is / that if yt happen any of my said Children viz[it]
John, Johanne Agnes & Denise or any of them shall fortune to Dep[ar]te this p[rese]nte
Lieff at any tyme or tymes before their said sev[er]all Ages or Daies of marriadge afors[ai]d
That then his p[ar]te or her p[ar]te so deceasinge shall remayne to thother of them then
Survivinge by equall porc[i]ons

The Resydue of all my goods moveable (and
ummoveable & my int[e]rest in my house duringe the Lief of Theoball Will[ia]ms (my
mother) my debts & legasies paied & fun[er]all expences p[er]formed & done I wholie
give and bequethe unto the said Katheryn my wieff whom I make & ordeyne my
sole Executrix / And of thexecuc[i]on[er] herof I make & ordeyne John Smithe of the
Box in Elburton & John Will[ia]ms (my brother) my ov[er]seers & I give to either of them
