Background

This is the last will and testament, nuncupative of Edmund Latch (abt.1619-1653), Originally from Churchill in Somerset, now a haberdasher from St Michaell Basingshaw in the City of London. Michael died in 1653, but the will was not proved until the 28th May 1656.

Memorandum that on or about the Nine and / twentieth day of August in the yeare of our Lord God one Thousand / sixe hundred fiftie three Edmund Latch of the parish of Saint Michaell/ Basingshaw London being sicke of the sicknesse whereof he dyed, but of / perfitt mind and memorie with a serious intent and purpose to settle / his estate did make and declare his last will and Testament nuncupative / in these words following or the like in effect --- --- give unto my / brother John All that estate which my father left me by his last will and / Testament in satisfaction of what is betweene him and me; All the / rest of my goods whatsoever I give to my brother Samuell to be at / his disposall, Or he the said Edmund Larch did declare his will and / minde in words to the like effect in the presence of credible witnessee, Anth: / Lacey, Tho: Benson Robert Prior

On the eight and twentieth day of May in the yeare of our Lord God one Thousand / a six hundred Fiftie seaven there issued forth Letters of Administration to Samuell Latch the / naturall and lawfull brother and principall and reciduarie Legatarie named in the last / will and testament Nuncupative of the said Edmund Latch deceased, to administer all and / singular the goods Chattells and debts of the said deceased according to the tenor and effect of / his said will for that no executor is therein named & so the said Samuel Latch being / first legally sworn well and justly? to administer the same
