This is a transcription of the register copy of the will of Edward Mitton or Mitten, of St Swithin in the City of Worcester. Edward drew up his will on 31 August 1626, and it was proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on 13 October 1627. [1]

In the name of God Amen the last daie of
August in the second yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of
god kinge of England Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the Faith &c And in the
yeare of our Lord god 1626 I Edward Mitton of the parish of Saint Swithen in the Cittie of
Worcester gentleman, Consideringe with myself that it is apppointed that everie man must
dye, and the time uncertaine being of perfect mynde and memorie, Doe make and ordayne this
my last will and testatment in manner and forme followinge Vidlt First I com[m]itt my soule
into the handes of Allmightie god assuredlie trustinge to be saved by the merritts, Death,
and passion of my Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ onelie, and not by anie workes of
myne owne; And for my bodie I Com[m]itt it to the earth to be decentlie buried, as it shall seeme
good to myne executors hereafter named

Nowe touchinge my worldly goodes I dispose them
thus Vidlt First I give and bequeath to my daughters Bridgett and Sara, to each of
them a silver beere boule, out of the nest of three, and such spoone or spoones as weare
given to them, and each of them at the time of their Christenings

father and mother in lawe Mr Walsh and his wief my brother Seabright my brother

Richard Walshe, my brother Mr Henrie Mitton, and my lovinge freinde Mr Thomas
Steyner Twentie shillinges a peece to make them Rings.

Item I give to Mr Robert Mason
my best black gowne, and my Murrey gowne, And I give to Mr Anthonie Barrowe my
Scarlett gowne, and my black gowne faced with Sattin.

Item I give to Mr Will[ia]m Yonger
And Mr Humffrey Hoare the yonger Five poundes a peece

Streete Fortie shillinges, if he discharge me of a bonde of Twentie poundes I stand bound to
Mr Haseblocke for

Item I give to my servant James Foster tenne poundes, And to everie
servant in my house at the time of my decease tenne shillinges a peece. Item I give to my
two Sergeants Robert Fincher, and Henry Bach tenne shillinges a peece.

All the rest of my
goodes, chattells, Plate, debts and credditts whatsoever (my debts, funerall expences, and
legacies first paid and discharges I give and bequeath to my loving wief Katherine and my
sonne equallie to be devided betweene them Provided allwaies, and my will and meaninge
is that my said sonne Edwards porc[i]on shallbe and remayne in the handes and possession of my
said wief, the use thereof beinge for his educac[i]on and maintenance untill he come to the age
of Eighteene yeares without securitie if she contynue soe longe unmarried, but in case she
marrie againe, then she shall give sufficient securitie to my executors hereafter named for the
for the payment of my said sonnes porc[i]on unto him at the age aforesaide (if he be then lyving) but
if he shall decease befre he accomplish the saide age, Then I give and bequeath thone [2] halfe
of his said porc[i]on to my said wief, and thother half to my daughters Bridgett and Sarah
or to which of them shalbe then lyvinge; if thother happen to decease in the meane time

And of this my last will and testament I make Mr Robert Mason and Mr Anthonie
Barrowe my executors, desiringe their care herin, accordinge to my trust in them reposed.

Probate [in Latin] On the thirteenth day of October AD 1627 appeared before the Commission Catherine Mitton the widow of Edward Mitton, late a Citizen of Worcester deceased, to whom was granted administration of all the right goods and credits of the said deceased according to the tenor of his will, the executors named in the said will Robert Mason and Anthony Barrow having renounced the task. Sworn before Master Humphrey Hoare, Rector of Saint Swithin in the City of Worcester
