Will
I Elinor Dalrymple of the township of Frankford, county of Sussex & State of New Jersey being advanced in years & infirm in body, but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish this for my last will & testament. First my sons John Dalrymple & Brice Dalrymple having been heretofor provided for, I omitt giving them anything by this testament & last will - Second, I give to my daughter Jane the wife of Benjamin Drake my riding mare saddle & bridel, and my black bombazett long yours and my big spinning wheel, Third I give and devise to my son James Dalrymple for his own use, the sum of one hundred dollars to be paid to him at the expiration of two years after my decease also the second volume of John Bunyan's works - and further I give and devise unto the said James Dalrymple the sum of twenty five dollars in trust never-theless for the benefit of my son Israel Dalrymple, or his children to be paid to him or them by James Dalrymple as soon as convenient after the receipt thereof and my will is that the said sum of twenty five dollars be paid at the expiration of three years after my decease - Fourth, I give to my daughter Elizabeth the wife of John Phillips my feather bed, wheron I usually lay together with the bolster & pillows and two pair of pillow cases, bedstead, & cords, one cotton & linen sheet, one twilled flannel blanket & one flowered bedspread of cotton & wool & the curtiains thereunto belonging, also one chocolate colored callico long gown, & one iron tea kettle, my large dining table. Fifth, I give to my daughter Anne the wife of William Phillips my close cupboard & one pair of iron andirons, shovel & tongs used at the fireplace in the room wherein I usually live, also a callico bedspread, commonly used on the bed in which which I sleep, one middle sized pewter platter, & one pewter flagon and six pewter plates & three black chairs - Sixth, I give to my grandaughter Lucetta Briant the underbed bedstead & end standing in the south east corner of the room in which I usually sleep, also the feather bed bolster & pillows on the bedstead in the back leanto together with a pair of pillow cases and a pair of tow & linen sheets, one black & bleu coverlid, also two cotton & wool blankets, one cotton and wool flowered bedspread or coverlid, and two peiced work callico bed quilts, being the proceeds of her own industry since she attained the age of eighteen years, & during the time of her living with me, also a small breakfast table, one middle sized pewter platter one small iron kettle, one frye pan, one iron pott, one small spinning wheel, one ? dough tray - Seventh I give to my granddaughter Fanny Horton one featherbed and a pair of pillows and pillowcases, one black & white coverled and a bedstead cord and underbed standing in the backleanto also one tow and linen sheet - Eighth, I give to my granddaughter Margaret Phillips daughter of John Phillips being of my wearing apparel one dark striped long gown ( Ninth, I give to my grandaughter Anne Phillips daughter of John Phillips being my wearing apparel one black muslin long gown, and to her sister Huldah the largest of the two of my small spinning wheels - Tenth, I give to my granddaughter Mariah Drake one brown ?wartid? bedquilt - Eleventh, I give to my grandaughter Ellinor Dalrymple a child of my son Israel one new table cloth, and to her sister Desire Dalrymple one yearling heiffer calf - Twelfth, I give to my grandson Joseph Silcocks four sheep, and it is my will that the same be put out on shares for his benefit on such terms that there may be an increase of stock arising therefrom, and so continue out on shares until he shall attain to the age of twenty one years, or to years of maturity sufficient to take charge of the same himself - Thirteenth, I give to Peter Huffman a creditor of my son Israel Dalrymple, one of my milch cows, to wit, the red & white spotted cow - Fourteenth, all the residue of my estate, of whatever description not herein before given divised & bequeathed, after payment of all just debt, and funeral charges I give devise & bequeath unto my daughters namely Jane the wife of Benjamin Drake, Elizabeth the wife of John Phillips, and Anna the wife of William Phillips to be divided between them equally share and share alike, and to hold to them and their respective heirs and assigns for ever - Lastly I nominate, constitute & appoint William A Ryerson executor of this my testimonial & last will. In witness whereof I have herunto set my hand & seal this tenth day of the sixth month (June) In the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve - (Elanor Dalrymple) Signed, sealed published and declared by the said Elanor Dalrymple to be her testament & last will in the presences of us - (John B Beach),(William Roe)
Suffolk County: John B Beach one of the witnesses to the written testament and being duly sworn did depose & say that he saw Ellinor Dalrymple her testament therin named sign & seal the same & heard her publicly pronounce & declare the within writing to be her last will & testament & at the doing therof the said testatrix was of sound and disposing mind & memory as far as this deponent knows & as he verily testifies and that Wm Roe the other ?? was present at the same time & signed his name as witness to the said will together with this deponent in the presence of the said testatrix - (John B. Beach) Sworn at Newton the 3d day of January Anno Domini 1816 before me (signature of D Stuart Surrogate)
Wm A Ryerson the executor in the written testament named being duly affirmed did declare & affirm that the within writing contains the true last will & testament of Elanor Dalrymple the testatrix therin named as far as he knows & as he verily believes that he will willfuly perform the same by first paying the debts of the said dec'd & then the legacies in the said testament specified as far as the goods chattels & credits of the said dec'd can therunto extend, and that he will ? & exhibit into the Surrogates office of Sussex a true & perfect inventory of all & singular the goods chattel & credits of the said dec'd that have or shall come to the knowledge or possession or to the possession of any other person or persons for their use and under their account when thereinto required by law - (Wm A Ryerson) Affirmed at Newton the 3d day of January Anno Domini 1816 before me (signature of D Stuart Surrogate)
I Daniel Stuart Surrogate of the county of Sussex do certify the annexed to be a true copy of the last will & testament of Elinor Dalrymple late of the county of Sussex dec'd and that Wm Ryerson the executor therein named proved the same before me and duly authorized to take upon himself the administration of the estate of the testatrix agreeably to the same will witness my hand and seal of office this third day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred & sixteen - (D Stuart)
