Will of Elizabeth Holbrook
This is a transcription of the register copy of the Will of Elizabeth Holbrook, widow of St Dunstan Canterbury, Kent. It was written on 1 August 1804 and proved at London on 21 December 1806. [1]

This is the last Will
and Testament of me Elizabeth Holbrook of Saint
Dunstan Canterbury in this County of Kent widow
whereby I desire to be buried in an handsome
manner in a Grave to be Steaned for that
purpose as near as conveniently may be to that
of my late Husband Edward Holbrook deceased in
a good Oak Coffin and that my Executrixes do cause?
a decent? head and foot Stones to be erected at my
Grave and also a Stone placed over my Grave to extend
from the said Head to the foot Stone and also
that the like Stones in manner aforesaid be
placed at and over the Grave of my said late
deceased Husband and I direct that all my just
debts Funeral and other Expenses be fully paid and
Satisfied

I give and bequeath to Jane Marsh wife of
Stephen Marsh of the parish of Saint Mary
Northgate in the City of Canterbury C......er the
Sum of Fifty pounds of lawful Money of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and ireland Current
in England

I give and bequeath to Mary Tilbe
of St Dunstan aforesaid widow the Sum of Fifty
pounds of like Money

I give and bequeath to Thomas
Tilbe her Son of Holy Cross Westgate Canterbury
Grocer the Sum of Twenty pounds of like Money

I give and bequeath to Mary Taylor of Broad
Street in Canterbury Spinster the Sum of Fifty
pounds of like Money together with the choice of
my two two best Gowns two of my best aprons two
laced Handkerchiefs and all my under Linen and
also my best Gold watch with the Chain Seals
and other Trinkets to the same belonging

I give
and bequeath to Hester Hills widow of William
Hills late of Saint Dunstan aforesaid deceased
the Sum of Twenty pounds of like Money

I
give and bequeath to the Reverend Joshua Dix
the Elder of the Cathedral Church of Christ
Canterbury Clerk and one of the Minor Canons of
the same Church the Sum of Fifty pounds of like
Money and to his wife Martha Dix the Sum
of Twenty pounds of like Money

I give and
bequeath to the poor of the parish of Saint
Dunstan aforesaid the Sum of Twenty pounds
of like Money to be paid into the hands of
the said Joshua Dix and to be distributed by
by him to amongst such poor as he in his
discretion shall think proper objects? and deserving
of the same in such manner and in such
proportions as he shall think fit

I give and
bequeath to the treasurer for the time being
of the general Kent and Canterbury Hospital
near

near the City of Canterbury the Sum of One
hundred pounds of like Money In Trust for the
Charitable purposes of the said Hospital to
be paid to the said Treasurer within the time
hereafter mentioned and his receipt alone to be
a Sufficient discharge for the same

I give to (empty space) Noble widow of the late Thomas .....
Noble deceased my best Diamond Ring and my
best set of Tea China and to each of the
Men that shall carry my Corpse to the Grave
the Sum of Seven Shillings and Six pounds a
piece all which Legacies I direct shall be
paid and delivered to the respective Legators
within three Months after my decease and as
to all the rest and residue of my Monies
Securities for Money whether in the public Stocks
or Funds or on private Security Goods Chattels
Plate Linen China Effects and personal
Estate of what nature or kindsoever and
wheresoever subject to the payment of my
debts and Legacies herein given

I give and
bequeath the same and every part thereof
unto Amy Impett wife of John Impett of
Saint ^[margin note: Dunstan] aforesaid carpenter her Executors Advi[s]ors
and Assigns to and for her own separate use
and benefit and at her disposal and I do hereby
direct that the same nor any part thereof
shall in any wise be subject or liable to the
debts or Engagements of her said Husband
John Impett neither that he shall have
any control or Management over the same
but that the same and every part thereof
shall notwithstanding her Coverture be at
her own sole and separate use and disposal
and that her receipts alone and without her
said Husband be good and effectuall discharge
and discharges at all times for the same
and every part thereof and I do hereby
Nominate and appoint the said Mary Impett
and Mary Taylor Executrixes of this my will
hereby revoking all former wills by me
made and declare this only to be my last

said Elizabeth Holbrook the Testatrix have to
this my last Will and Testament set my
hand and Seal this first day of August in
the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight

This Will was proved at London
the Twenty Third day of December in the year
of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and
six before the Right Honorable Sir William
Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper
or Commissary of the prerogative Court of
Canterbury lawfully Constituted by the Oaths of
Amy (by mistake written Mary) Impett (wife of
John Impett) and Mary Taylor Spinster the
Executrixes named in the said will to whom
Administration was granted of all and Singular
the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased
they having been first sworn by Commission
duly to admnister.//–

POSSIBLE Baptism: Elizabeth was baptised on 3 March 1726 in Canterbury, St Mary Northgate, Kent, England. She was the daughter of John & Anne.[2]

POSSIBLE Marriage: Eliz married Edward Hombrook on 21 September 1747 in Chartham, St Mary, Kent, England.[3]

Elizabeth died on 10 December 1806 and was buried in Kent, England.[4][5]

Elizabeth died in about 1806 in Saint Dunstan Canterbury, Kent, England. Their will passed probate on 23 December 1806.[6]
