This is a transcript of the will of Elizabeth Vernon, widow, of Walcot, Somerset. Her will was dated 17 August 1848 and was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury in September 1848.

Transcript

This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Vernon of the Parish of Walcot in the City of Bath Widow

First I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses and the charges and expenses of proving and establishing this my Will be fully paid and satisfied by my Executrix hereinafter named as soon as conveniently may be after my decease

I give and bequeath to my Son John Russell Vernon the sum of Two hundred pounds Sterling to be paid to him within twelve calendar months next after my decease

Also I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Winthrop James Vernon Son of my late Son Winthrop Vernon deceased the sum of Two hundred pounds Sterling to be paid to him on his attaining the age of Twenty five years or at such earlier period as my Executrix may in her own discretion think proper

And I give and bequeath unto my Granddaughter Sibella the wife of James Farish Esquire my Diamond hoop ring and to my Granddaughter Elizabeth Dorrill Hodson my Gold watch

I give and devise unto my Daughter Bathsua Vernon All that my freehold messuage or dwellinghouse situate in and now known as Number 6 Upper Church Street in the Parish of Walcot in the City of Bath aforesaid with the appurtenances To hold the same unto and to the use of my said Daughter Bathsua Vernon her heirs and assigns for ever And I do subject and charge the said messuage or dwellinghouse to and with the payment of the said respective sums of Two hundred pounds so given and bequeathed to the said John Russell Vernon and Winthrop James Vernon respectively as aforesaid

Also I give devise and bequeath unto the said John Russell Vernon All that my freehold messuage or dwellinghouse now known as Number 22 Belvidere in the Parish of Walcot in the City of Bath aforesaid with the appurtenances Together with such rent as may be due or accruing due to me for the same at the time of my decease To hold the same unto the said John Russell Vernon his heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely

And I do hereby give devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Bathsua Vernon All the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal estate property and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or description soever the same may be which I or any person or persons In trust for me shall be seized possessed of interested in or entitled to at the time of my decease and not hereinbefore otherwise disposed of To hold the same real and personal estate unto and to the use of my said Daughter her heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely according to the nature terms and quality thereof [page 2] respectively

And I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said daughter Bathsua Vernon Executrix of this my Will and hereby revoking all other Wills Codicils and testamentary dispositions by me at any time heretofore made I do declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament

In witness whereof I the said Elizabeth Vernon have hereunto set my hand this Seventeenth day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty eight.

Proved at London […] Septr. 1850 before The Worshipful James Parker Deane Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of Bathsua Vernon Spinster the Daughter the sole Executrix to whom Admon was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
