Transcription of Will of Experience Luce
In the Name of God Amen. This Twentyeth Day of September 1746 and In the Twenthieth Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George of Great Britain France and Ireland the Second King. I Experience Luce of Tisbury in the County of Dukes County and in the Province of Massachusetts Bay in New England yeoman calling to mind the mortality of my Body Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. That is to say first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it and my Body I give to the Earth to be Buried in a descent manner at the Discretion of my Executor hereafter named not Doubting but that at the Resurrection I shall Receive the Same by the mighty Power of God. And as to my Worldly Estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me, I give and dispose of in manner and forme following. viz.
Imprimis I Give and Bequeath to my Beloved Wife Elizabeth Luce During her natural Life for her use and Improvement the whole of my movables within Doores as also the one half of my movables without Doors, and also the one half of my now Dwelling house viz The Westermost half, and also I give to my said Wife the one half of the Land whereon the house now stands as also the whole of the wood Lott Lying and being in Tisbury upon the back of the Hill which Hill is to the Westward of my son Zephanias viz. the use and Improvement of the sd Lott of wood Land to intend no more then wood for the maintenance of one fire for her self. The use of the Perticulars to be continued to her During her natural Life.
Item I give to my beloved son Zephaniah Luce the sume of five shillings old Tenor, having given him already by Deed of Gift his just proportion of my Worldly Estate.
Item I give to my beloved son Shubal Luce the sum of five shillings old Tenor and also one third of my indoor movables after his mothers Decease. This with what I have already given him by Deed of Gift I Esteeme as his Just Proportion of my Worldly Estates.
Item I give and Bequeath to my son Timothy Luce Beloved all that Tract of Land which I had of Josias the Known Sachem of Tisbury by Deed lying at the Place commonly called the northshore as also about four acres of Land lying next adjoining to the Land Last mentioned on the north and also I Give to my beloved son Timothy Luce all the meadow and upland belonging to me Lying at a Place called Moohoosneck as also the beach belong thereunto and also half a share throout the Common and undivided Land in that Tract of Land commonly called the Indian Town as also one Third of my Indoor movables at his mothers Decease as also all my wearing apparrell at my Decease.
Item I Give and bequeath to my beloved son Benjamin Luce the sum of forty pounds old Tenor to be paid by my Executor Two years after my wifes Decease this with what I have already given him I Look upon as his Proportion of my Worldly Estate.
Item Give & Bequeath to my beloved son John Luce all my Lands not yett Disposed of viz. the Dwelling house and the Land whereon it now stands as also the wood Lott upon the back of the hill as above mentioned as also the one half of a share in the three last Divisions -- as also one half of a share in the Common and undivided Land within the Township of Tisbury, as also one half of my Pew in the meeting house in Tisbury, as also one Third of my Indoor Movables at his mothers Decease, as also one half of my outdoor movables to be his at and Immediately after my Decease as also I Give to my said son John Luce my Great Bible after his mothers Decease.
Lastly I appoint and Ordain my beloved son John Luce as the only Executor of my Last Will and Testament. and I Do hereby utterly Revoak all and Every Testament and Will Legacys and bequests and Executors by me in any ways before named or Willed, Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my Last Will & Testament. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto sett to my hand and seal the Day and Year above Written.
