- This is the last Will and Testement of me George Barrett of Salisbury cordwainer made at Salisbury this twentieth day of February one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven
- First I direct that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses be paid I give and bequeath unto my Brother William Barrett of Wyke Regis in the County of Dorset the whole of my property and book debts nevertheless in trust and for the use & purpose hereafter specified that is to receive the rents interest and profit of the said property and pay it over half yearly to my dear wife Jane Barrett during the whole term of her natural life And I further direct that she shall enioy the use of all my furniture plate Books linen & pictures during the whole of her natural life and that if she my said wife beein [sic] it expedient with the above and consent of my trustee and Executor aforenamed to sell any part of the same the said sale shall be effected and the proceedsof the same placed at interest for her use and benefit as aforesaid
- And I hereby authorize my said Executor William Barrett of Wyke Regis aforesaid to sell any part or the whole of my property as it may be necessary to pay my debts or as it may appear expedient for the improvement of the property by placing it in some other form And also to give my said wife thirty pounds as soon after my decease as convenient for her present use and necessities
- And after the decease of my said wife I give and bequeath the whole of my remaining said property to my three daughters Sarah Anna and Harriott And to their Executors admin’rs [administrators] and assignes to be divided equally between them share & share alike as they shall respectively attain the age of twenty one yeares or be married provided such marriage be with the consent of my Executors saving and excepting from the said peoperty three silver tablesppoons of which I direct one to be given to each of my three Children Jane William and Clement, the two former I believe willbe satisfied that they are already provided for & the latter knows that he has already had too large a share of the family property
- And I hereby nominate and appoint my said brother & wife Executors of this my last Will and Testament
- George Barrett signed sealed and delivered by the within George Barrett in the presence of Geo Richardson Stephwn Maton
- Proved at London 7 Aug’t 1838 before the judge by the oath of William Barrett the Brother one of the Ex’ors to whom admo’n was granted having been first sworn by [conc’ious (?)] duly to administer Power received of making the like grant to Jane Barrett the relict the other Ex’or when she shall apply for the same
