In the Name of God Amen I Henry Charles Howard of the parish of St Clements Danes in the county of Middlesex Esquire do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say, first and above all things I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping by the Merits of my Saviour Jesus Christ to receive full remission of all my sins and everlasting life my body I recommend to the earth to be decently but privately buried at Dorking in the county of Surrey and what worldly estate God Almighty has bestowed on me I dispose of in the following manner that is to say First I will that all my just debts and funeral charges be fully paid and satisfied In the next place unto my eldest son Henry Howard or such other son as shall become my eldest son I do give all my family pictures wherever they are and all the furniture of my house at Grasstock (Graystock) Item unto my said eldest son Henry or such other son as shall become my eldest son I do give all my plate and the furniture of my house in London to be delivered to him at his age of one and twenty years and until he shall attain that age or my wife happen to marry I do give the use of my plate and of my furniture in my house in London (family pictures excepted if any there happen to be) unto my said wife Mary Howard Item unto my said wife I do give what sums of money I have received as Executor or by virtue of Executorship of my Mother-in-Law Mrs Helene Aylwood Item unto my daughter Mary Howard I do give the sum of five hundred pounds Item to the servant that waits generally upon me in my chamber I do give all my wearing apparel linen and woollen with one years wages over and above what shall be due to him and I desire my Executrix hereinafter named to be kind to the rest of my servants and I do hereby revoke all former and other Wills and of this my last Will I do constitute and appoint my said wife Mary Howard my Sole Executrix and I do appoint Mr Basil FitzHerbert of Grays Inn assistant to my said Executrix and to be overseer of this my last Will and to him the said Basil FitzHerbert I do give the sum of two hundred pounds for the trouble he may have therein And my Will is that my said Executrix do pay or deliver such legacies as I shall direct or appoint to be paid or delivered by Note under my hand bearing even date herewith, and lastly my Will is that all the residue and remainder of my money goods and personal estate whatever be divided among my daughters and younger son and sons in such manner as my said Executrix shall direct and appoint and for want of such direction that it shall be equally divided among them In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal this eighth day of June 1720 (Hen: Ch: Howard) Signed sealed published and declared by the Testator Henry Charles Howard to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto set our hands at the request and in the presence of the Testator - Nicho: Rowe - James Cooke - Alice Waynwright -

Note added to the Will “On the eighth day of October 1748 Admon (with the said Will annexed) of the goods chattels and credits of the said Honble Henry Charles Howard deceased left unadministered by the said Mary Howard deceased was granted to Frances Howard spinster the daughter and only surviving residuary legatee named in the Will of the said Mary Howard deceased and as such the only surviving residuary legatee appointed by the said Will of the said Henry Charles Howard deceased being first sworn duly to administer.”
