I, Hilkiah Samuel Young of No 57 Church Street in the Parish of Saint Mathew Bethnal Green in the County of Middlesex (Undertaker) being of sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understand and being mindful of the uncertainty of this Life, DO make publish and Declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following; that is to say,
first, that whenever it shall please God to call me from this Life, I desire to be buried in my Family Grave in Bunhill Fields City Road; And as to the Worldly Goods and Effects which I may die possessed of I give and dispose of them as follows,
Item, I give to my eldest Son Robert Young Longman, now residing at New York North America (Gold and Silver Refiner) the mourning Ring which I now wear in memory of His late Mother my first Wife, the same to be sent to Him free of Expense by the safest conveyance possable as my Executors and Executrix hereinafter named shall think proper.
Item, I give to my Son Joseph Young of the Parish of Saint Mathew Bethnal Green (Undertaker ?) Five Pounds of Lawful Money of great Britain and my Family Bible by Priestly, the said Sum of Five Pounds to be paid to him within Six Callender Months after my decease.
Item, I give to my beloved Wife Jane Young and my said GrandDaughter Eliza Schunter, all the money I may die possessed of and also the money allowed at my Death by the equitable Society of Master Tradesmen held at the Sign of the Fountain in the Minories, the said monies to be divided equally between them Share and Share alike immediately after my Decease and I desire that the Money so given to my said GrandDaughter shall not be subject to the Control of my Son in Law George Schunter (her Father) or any other Person, but it is my Will that my said Wife and GrandDaughter shall each have her Share of the said Monies for their and each of their own absolute use and Benefit
And as to the rest residue of by Property including my Household Furniture, Stock in Trade, Funeral Fillings utensils in my Business, Book Debts which may be outstanding at the TIme of my Decease, the Lease of my House (situate No 57 Church Street aforesaid) Plate, Watch, wearing Apparel, Jewellery and all manner or Description of property whatsoever and wheresoever the same may be and not herein before Disposed of, I give to my Executors and Executrix hereinafter named and appointed in Trust nevertheless that they Do cause the same to be Valued immediately after my Burial and after paying the Legacy of Five Pounds to my Son Joseph Young (as herein before Directed) all my Just Debts and all Expences attending the Executorship in proving this my Will , and all incidental Expences, I desire that the same may be equally Divided between my Wife Jane Young and my Granddaughter Eliza Schunter Share and Share alike, and it is my Will that the said Trust shall continue with respect to my said granddaughter until She shall arrive at the age of Twenty one Years or the Day of her marriage provided she marries with the Consent of my said Wife if before She attains the age of Twenty one years.
And lastly I hereby nominate and appoint my much esteemed Friends Mr James Evans (the elder) Surveyor of the Thames Police and Mr Joseph William Newman of Globe Road Mile End Old Town, and my beloved Wife Jane Young, to be my Executors and Executrix of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and making Void all other Wills at any Time heretofore by me made, and I do Declare this only to be my last Will and Testament; in Witness whereof I have here unto set my Hand and Seal this Twenty fourth Day of April in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Seven[1]
