Introductory Notes

The will of Hugh Bawding/Bawdwyn/Baldwin of Hingham, Norfolk, England was written on 10 October 1556 and proved in the Archdeaconry Court of Norfolk on 13 June 1558.^[1]

The will is a register copy, written in English over two pages. The text is difficult to interpret in places; there are numerous obscure spellings and representations of letters. The paper/parchment is in good condition. The will starts at the top of folio 265 recto and the probate statement ends at the bottom of folio 265 verso.

Transcription Conventions

This testament was proved at Wymondham before the commissary and official within the Archdiocese of Norfolk etc. On the 13th day of the month of June in the year of our Lord one thousand five hundred and fifty eight, the administration of the goods and debts was committed to the executrix named in the said testament, and sworn in due form of law.
