In the name of god amen the fourth day of September in the yeare of
the reigne of our sovereigne lord James by the grace of god of
England Scotland France and Ireland Kinge defender of the faith &
of England France and Ireland the 6th and of Scotland the xijth
I John Benjamin of Chavuton in the countie of Sussex yeoman
beinge sicke in body but of good and p[er]fect remembrance thanked be
untoalmighty god doe make and ordayne this my last will & testament
in Mann[er] and forme followinge
First I bequeath my soule unto
the handes o Allmighty god & my body to be buried in the churchyard
of Chavuton
Item my mynde and will is that Robert Hooke & Richard
Hooke my wyves brothers shall have holde and ..... to them & their
assignes all and singul[ar] my landes lyinge in Chavuton with the
appurten[an]ces therunto belonginge duringe the space of eight yeares
immediately ensuinge the tyme of my decease yealdinge & payinge
therfore unto every one of my children except my sonne John the
summe of xijtie at there severall ages of xxitie yeares And if any
of my said children shall happen to decease bfore they accomplishe
the age of xxitie yeares then my will is that the porton of him
her or them so deceasinge shall be equaly divided amongst my
children survivinge at ther severall ages of xxitie yeares And further
also my mynde is that whatsoever profitt shall arise of my land
in the eight yeares aforesaid over and above the severall sum[m]es
bequeathed to my children as aforesaid the same profitt shall
redounde unto my wife and be paid unto her by her said brothers
towarde the bringing up of my children
