I, Joseph Clanton, of Southampton Co, Va, do make my last will and testament. First, I wish my land and negroes namely, Hall, Tom, George, Charles, Creasy, and Mina to be sold to the highest bidder, the proceeds of the sale to pay my debts.

Second, I bequeath to my negroes, Esther, Lucy, Harriet, Jane, John Simon, Bob, Mary, David, Nicholas, and Richard their freedom forever and wish them to be sent to a free state. (They went to Jefferson Co., Ohio)

Thirdly, after the payment of my debts, I bequeath Esther, Lucy, Harriet, Jane, John Simon, Bob, Mary, David, Nicholas, and Richard my estate.

Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my negro woman Esther her freedom and for her and her children afore named to be moved to a non-slaveholding state. And my old negro woman Sally I wish to be comfortably supported as long as she lives and not to be compelled to labor for any person whosoever only as she pleases.
