This is a transcript of the will of Nicholas Glossopp, yeoman, of Barlborough, Derbyshire. His will was dated 15 May 1710 and proved at Chesterfield on 15 November 1710.
Will
In the name of God Amen I Nicholas Glossopp of Wood house Lane
in The p[ar]ish of Barlbrough in The County of Derby yeoman beinge weake & infirm
in body but of sound & p[er]fect minde & memory (praised be given to Almighty
God for the same) Therefore consideringe The Frailty & uncertainty of this
humane Life doe make & ordaine this my Last Will & Testament in manner &
Forme followinge First & principally I commend my Soule into The handes of
Almighty God my Creator who gave it & my body I comitt unto The Earth
from whence it came to be decently buryed att The discretion of my Freinds
And as for my Temporall & worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God
of his goodnesse to blesse me I give & dispose thereof as followeth First my
Will & minde is & I doe hereby give devise & bequeath unto Mary my
Loveinge wife The one Moyety or halfe part of all my Messuage or
Tenem[en]t & the Landes thereunto belonginge with Thappurtences Scituate
lyeinge & beinge att Birchett in The p[ar]ish of Dronfeild now or late in
the possession of Robert Firth Felmonger or of his assignes To have & to
holde the s[ai]d Moyety or halfe part of the s[ai]d Messuage & Lands unto the s[ai]d
Mary my s[ai]d Wife for & dureinge the Terme of her naturall life And
from & after her decease I doe hereby give & bequeath the same unto my Sonne
James Glossopp & his heires for ever And The other Moyety or halfe p[ar]t
of the s[ai]d Messuage or Tenem[en]t & Lands I doe hereby give & bequeath unto
my s[ai]d Sonne James Glossop & his heirs for ever Provided nevertheless
& my Will & minde is That Mary my s[ai]d wife shall have take & receive
the rents & of the Last men[ti]oned Moyety or halfe p[ar]t of the Messuage &
Lands before bequeathed to my s[ai]d Sonne James untill he the s[ai]d James
shall attaine the age of One & Twenty yeares for & towards his maintenan[ce]
& bringinge upp And further my Will & minde is That if my s[ai]d Sonne
James shall dye & leave noe issue of his body Lawfully begotten That then
the s[ai]d Messuage & Lands shall goe & be to the use & behoose of my Fower
children Peter Francis Elizabeth & Mary Glossop & Elizabeth Webster & their heires for ever
to be equally devided among them Alsoe I doe hereby give & bequeath unto
my Daughter Mary Glossopp Sixety poundes of Lawfull money to be
p[ai]d to her by my Executrix when she attaines to the age of One & Twenty
yeares or be marryed which shall first happen Alsoe I doe hereby give &
bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Webster Five poundes of Lawfull
money to be p[ai]d her by my Executrix within Twelve Moneths next after my
death Alsoe I doe hereby give & bequeath unto my Two Sonmes Peter
& Frances Glossopp Five poundes a peice to be p[ai]d them by my Executrix
att the end of two yeares next after my death Alsoe I doe hereby give &
bequeath unto my s[ai]d Sonne James Glossopp Twenty poundes to be p[ai]d him
by my Executrix when he shall attaine the age of One & Twenty yeares
All The rest residue & remainder of all & singular my Goods Cattle Chattells
& p[er]sonall Estate whatsoever after my debts Legacies & Funerall expences
are discharged I doe hereby give & bequeath unto my s[ai]d Wife Mary
Glossopp whome I doe hereby make & ordaine sole Executrix of this
my Last Will & Testament (Provided Allwayes & my Will & minde is That
if it shall happen That Mary my s[ai]d Wife doe marry againe That then
she shall pay unto my s[ai]d Five children Peter Frances James & Mary Glossop
& Elizabeth Webster Five poundes a peice more than the Legacies herein
before bequeathed to them) And I doe hereby desire my Loveinge Brother
Peter & Glossopp & my Loveinge Neighbour Mr John Robbinson to be Supvisors
of this my Last Will & Testam[en]t hopeinge they will be aideinge & assistinge To my
Executrix on seeinge this my Will p[er]formed & doe hereby give to each of them
a Gumney[?] a peice for the paines And I doe hereby revoake make null &
voyde all Former & other Will & Wills be me heretofore made & doe publish &
declare this only to be my Last Will & Testament In Witnesse whereof I have
hereunto set my hand & seale the Fifteenth day May In The Nineth
yeare of The Raigne of our Sov[e]raigne Lady Anne By The Grace of God Queene
over Great Brittaine &c Anno Dm 1710.

The Condicon of this Obliga[ti[on is such that if the above bound
Mary Glossop widdow Relict and Executrix of the last Will and
Testament of Nicholas Glossop dec[eas]d
to whom the Tui[ti]on and Educa[ti]on of Peter Francis James and
Mary Glossop nat[ura]l and lawfull Children of the said
dec[ease]d
being in their minority is by the abovenam’d Wm. Walmisley Comitted &
granted doe and shall well and conveniently educate foster and bring up the
said Children with sufficient and convenient meat drink lodging and
apparrell meet and decent for their Estate and Calling dureing their
Minority and do also pay or Cause to be paid unto them all such
sume or sumes of Money as to them shall be due by the last Will and
Testam[en]t of the said dec’d and lastly do and shall upon
Costs and Charges save defend and keep harmless the said Willm Walmisley
and all other Officers and Ministers in this behalf authorized for Comitt[ing]
