Will of Richard Harris of Downton Wiltshire victualler 1744

The Will of Richard Harris of Downton in the County of Wilts and Diocese of Sarum

In the Name of God Amen I Richard Harris Will and Testamt. Of me Richard Harris of Downton in the County of Wilts Victualler touching the settling and disposing of such worldly estate and estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life

First I hereby give and bequeath unto my brother Thomas Harris my grey suit of cloathes and two of my ordinary shirts to be delivered unto him within one months next after my decease

Also I give and bequeath unto my sister Elizabeth Crouch the downe bed that was my fathers for the term of her natural life only and from and immediately after my said sisters decease I hereby give and bequeath the said bed unto her son Thomas touch and I will that the said bed be delivered unto my said sisters (if living) and in case of her death unto her son William eight days next after my decease

Also I hereby give and bequeath likewise unto my said brother Thomas Harris the sum of fifty shillings of lawful British money

Also to his two sons Benjamin and George Harris the like sums of fifty shillings each and to Ruth and Hannah Harris daughters of my said brother the sums of five pounds each

and also to Mary and Ann Newman daughters of my sister Mary Newman five shillings each

all which said legacys to be paid unto them severally and respectively within one month next after the decease or second marriage of Elizabeth my now wife which shall first happen and in case my said wife shall be married a second time then my will and meaning ia that my said wife shall have and take the sum of twenty pounds and all my linen which said sum and linnen (in case as aforesaid) I hereby give and bequeath unto my said wife

and the residue of my personal estate unto all my relations hereinbefore herementioned to be equally divided between them share and share alike otherwise all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever (after my just debts funeral expenses legacies of cloaths shirts and bed and so forth are paid and discharged) in case my said wife be not married a second time as aforesaid I hereby give and bequeath unto my said wife for and during her natural life and i hereby nominate make and ordain my said wife and Thomas son of my said brother Thomas Harris executrix and executor of this my Last Will and Testament and it is my will that my body be buried in a descent like and Christian manner at the discretion of my said executors

In witness whereof i have hereunto set my hand seal this ninth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty four
