In Dei nomine, Amen. I Richard Warfeild Rector
of Dry Draton in the County of Cambridge, and of the Diocesse of Ely, beinge
I thanke God, of good remembraunce, callinge to mynde my mortality, not knowinge
when it will please the lorde to call mee hence, doe make and ordaine this my last
will and testament in manner and forme followinge First my soule I humbly recom[m]end
into the moste mighte, and mercifull handes of Jesus Christe, my sole and as sufficient
savio[u]r and Redeemer. And my Bodie to the Church Cha[u]ncell, as neare as may be
to my deerest Wieffe. And as for those wordly goodes w[hi]ch God hath given mee
I will they shall be disposed thus; Inprimis my Funeralles being p[er]formed, w[i]th as
little adoe as may be I charge my Execut[or] to take order first for the payment of
my debtes w[hi]ch will appeare under my hand that noe man have anie iust cause to
complaine of any wronge done unto them, by mee. Secondly all my ^free^ landes in Barford
in the County of Bedford, and all thereto anywhere belonginge, I will shall be
sold w[i]thin sixe monethes after my decease, by my Executor or executors to raise porc[i]ons
for these my children (that is to say) Elizabeth the wife of Anthony Wood of little Hadham
in Count[y] Hertforde, to whome I will and bequeath Fifty poundes of currant Englishe
money, to be paid soe soone as the money for the land can be gotten, out of w[hi]ch some
of Fifty poundes I will Twenty nobles to be given to her daughter Mary. To my
third sonne Thomas I will and bequeath one hundred poundes of like money to be paide
unto him at the age of one and twenty yeares. Item to my two younger daughters Grace
and Mary I will and bequeath one hundred marke a peice, to be paid into the handes of
my kyndest freinds Mr Thom[a]s Anscell of Barforde abovesaid, Esquier, and my most lovinge
brother in lawe, Mr Richard Hunter of Colmeworth in the County of Bedforde, Rector
to be disposed at their discrec[i]on, till my daughters be marryed, or shall come to the
age of one and twenty yeares, for their mainten[a]unce till then. And if it happen that
eyther Thomas, Grace or Mary, my Children abovesaid, shall die, before their porc[i]ons
come to their handes That then the portion of any one of them, soe dyinge, shalbe
devided equally betwixt the two that over live, And if two of them dye, then the
survivor, and my sonne Roger, shall divide their porc[i]ons equally betwixt them And I
will that all my Free landes abovesaid, soe solde, shalbe to the use of him, or them, and
their heires forever, whoe shall purchase them, at the handes of my Executor or executors
Thirdly my Copiehoulde land in Dry Drayton abovesaid, w[i]th all thererto belonginge
I surrender to the use of John my youngest childe and his heires for ever. But if itt
happen my sonne John doe dye before he come to yeares, that then my sonnes Roger and
Thomas shall have the Coppy to them and their heires for ever, equally to be devided
betwixte them. The gardian of my sonne John till he come to yeares, I constitute and
appoint my faythfull freind and brother Mr Richarde Hunter abovesaid, to whome I com[m]itt
both the Childe, and the lande to be disposed of, at his discrec[i]on, for the good of the
foresaid John, my youngest child, till he come to the yeares of one and twenty, if hee live
soe longe. Fourthly, to Roger my seconde sonne, I will and bequeath all my Bookes, & pap[er]s
whatsoever, as alsoe all my Apparell and twenty poundes in money, to finde him at Cambr[idge]
soe longe as it will last, yf he be a student there, at the tyme of my decease. Fiftly to Richard
my eldest sonne (who hath alreadie had of mee a good portion) I will, and bequeath twenty poundes
To be payde w[i]thin eight monethes after my decease. Item to the poore of Dry Draton I will &
bequeath Fouer markes, to be paide w[i]thin sixe monethes after my death, to be distributed by
my Executor and Successor of the Rectory of Dry Draton. Item to each of my two sisters Mris.
Susan Smithe, and Agnes Norris both of London widowes, I will and bequeath Five markes
apeece, w[i]thin sixe monethes after my decease, yf they be then livinge, sorry my poore estate will
reach to noe better a remembrance of them. Item all my Wives wearing lynnen and woollen &
Childbed lynnen I will and bequeath to my three daughters above named equallie to be divided
betwixt them. Item to my very kynde Uncle Mr. Thomas Anscell abovesaid I will and bequeath
the Ringe of goulde w[hi]ch was my Fathers, And to my lovinge Aunte his wieffe a little golde
Ringe w[i]th a blewe Turky stone in it a remembraunce of my love And to my brother Mr
Hunter abovesaid my blacke nagge and to his wife my wives sister my wives weddinge gold ringe
And to my Mother in lawe Mris Mary Carter, my Wives gould ringe w[i]th a Rubie in it And to
my sister Mris Anne Nicholls of London, a goulde ringe, w[i]th a ?panerey on it, w[hi]ch was her
Grandmothers. And to Roger my sonne, my gould ringe w[i]th my seale on it. And to Richard my
sonne, my gould ringe w[i]th a dathes heade on it, beinge fower square. Item the rest of my goodes
Chattelles whatsoever (the legacies abovsaid, and my debts beinge paid) I will and bequeath to
be equally divided amongst all my sixe eldest Children at the discrec[i]on of my Sup[er]vsisors, or two
of them, p[re]sently after to be named. Item of this my last will and testament I make
and ordaine Roger my second sonne sole Executor, whome I charge, as he will answere mee
before God allmighty to deale well and truely w[i]th his bretheren and sisters accordinge to the
trust reposed upon him. And the Sup[er]visors of this my last will and testament I make & ordaine
my kynde freinds Mr. Tho: Anscell, and Mr Richard Hunter above said, and Mr Thom[a]s Carter
my Wives eldest brother of Barforde abovesaid gent[leman] to whome I bequeath my gould ringe of
three wiers, the middlemost whereof is wreathed. And yf it shall happen that my Executor shall
dye before he canne execute this my Will, Then I make my three supervisors, or two of them, w[hi]ch shall
then live, my Executors of this my last will and testament. And further yf anie question or quarrel
chaunce to arise aboute this my Will, or any thinge therein, betweene my Children, that then my
Sup[er]visors shall have full power to decide the question, and quarrell, or two of them, and hee
or shee that will not stand thereto, shall loose the benefitt of all, to them hearein bequeathed.
In witnesse whereof, I have written this w[i]th myne owne hande, and sealed it w[i]th my seale, the
First daye of June, Anno Regis Jacobi Angliae &c. 17o. et Scotia 52 Anno D[omi]ni 1619. / By
me Richard Warfeild Rector of Dry Draton. / This was testified by the Testator to be his will
his hand, and seale in the presence of me John Jackson & James Bridgman.
