This is a transcription of the Original Will of Richard Wright, Husbandman of Hingham, 1616. Richard wrote his will on 5 April 1612 and it was proved on 1616[1]

In the name of god Amen The fifthe daye of April in the yeare of o[ur] Lord One Thousand Sixe Hundred &
Twelve & in the yeare of the raigne of o[ur] Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of god of England France &
Ireland Kinge defender of the faythe etc. the tenth etc of Scotland the xlv th I Richard Wright of Hingham
in the countye of Norff[olk] husbandman being in good minde & [per]fect rememberance thankes be to god make &
ordayne this my last Will & Testament in mann[e]r & forme followinge, vizt: First I bequeath my soule
into Almighty god my creator & into his deare sonne & my Saviour Jesus Christ, & my boyde to be buryed in
the churchyarde of Hingham aforesayde;

Item I give & bequeath unto John Wright my sone fifteene
pounds to be paid in mann[e]r & forme followinge, vizt, tene pounds thereof within one whole yeare after my decease
& five pounds residewe of the fifteene within halfe A yeare after & if it shall happen, my said sonne John to de[par]te
this life before that then it shalbe paide & distributed to & amongest the children in even porcions

Item I give unto Margarett my daughter five pound to be paide within halfe a yeare after the aforesayde payment & if
yt shall happen the said Margaret to dye before, then I will that it shall remayne unto the children of the
said Margarett, equally to be devided amongst them

Item I give unto Thomas Reede my sonne in law & Elizabeth
his wife five pounds to be paide halfe a yeare after & my will & minde is that they shall use & imploye the
same to their owne uses duringe their natureall lives & after their decease it to remayne equally to the
children of their aun bodyes lawfully begotten

Item I give unto the chidren of Robert Woode & Anne his wife xxs

Item I give to Richard Wright my godsonne xs & to the rest of the children of Thomas Wright my sonne
xxs to be equally devided amongst them

Item I give to Richard Locke my belchild xs to the rest of
the children of Robert Locke & Amye his wife xxs to be equally devided amongst them & to the children
of Robert Wright my sonne fortye shillinges to be devided equally amongst them & my will & my mind is
that these legacyes unto wh[i]ch no time is limitted, shallbe paide within halfe a yeare after the past recaled daye
of payment

Item I give unto the children of [Christ]ofer Sharpe xxs & unto the children of John Wright my
sonne xxs to be equally devided amongst them to be paide within halfe a yeare after & if it shall happen
any of the aforesayde children to de[par]te this life before the said dayes of payment then I will that their porcion
or partes shall remayne & be devided equally to & amongst those wh[i]ch rema[y]ne

Item I give & bequeath
unto John Wright my sonne all my ymplementes & householde stuffe (except one inbberd wh[i]ch I give unto
Thomas my sonne) & xxxiijs xd to be payde within halfe a yeare after all the aforesayde dayes of
payment and further my will & mind is, that whereas Thomas Wright my sonne shareth bonde unto
me in one writinge obliatory under penalty of fower skoure pounds for the payment of fower & fortye
pounds of lawfull English money, that these my legacyes & giftes being well & faythefully paide & [per]formed
accordinge to the true intent & meaninge of this my last will & testament and the residewe & surplusage of
the paid debt, I do give & bequeath unto my said sonne Thomas to defene in his handes, (except xxs wh[i]ch I
give unto John Cow[per] for his paines beinge Supavisor of this my will and I doe make & ordaine
said sonne Thomas my executo[ur] of this my last will & testament. In witness hereof unto this my
last will & testament I have sette my hande & seale the daye & yeare first above written. These
