Will of Sarah Bodicott, Spinster of Ealing
This is a transcription of the register copy of the Will of Sarah Boddicott of New Brentford, Middlesex. It was written on 12 May 1736 and proved at London on 27 June 1737. [1]

In the Name of God Amen
I Sarah Boddicott of old Brentford in the Parish of Ealing otherwise
Ealing in the County of Middlesex Spinster being weak and indisposed
in body but of sound perfect and disposing mind memory and
understanding (praised be Almighty God therefore) Doe make publish

and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form
following (that is to say) First and principally I recommend my
Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it hoping for
Eternal Salvation thro[ugh] the merits of my ever Blessed Redeemer Jesus
Christ and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred
at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and as to such
Worldly Substance and Estate as God in his mercy hath been pleased
to bless me with I dispose thereof as followeth (to witt)

I Give Devise
and bequeath to my Nephew Edmund Boddicott all that my Messuage
or Tenement with the yard and outhouses thereunto belonging
Scituate and being at the Corner of the half Acre in New Brentford
in the Parish of Hanwell in the said County of Middlesex now in the
Occupation of M[aste]r John Edmonds Hatter and also all those my two
Messuages or Tenements with the Yard Gardens and appurtenances
thereunto belonging Scituate and being in New Brentford aforesaid now
in the several Tenures or Occupations of John Fouth Jun[io]r and Joseph
Payne Collar maker To hold the said Three Several Messuages or
Tenements with the Yard Gardens outhouses and appurtenances
Whatsoever thereunto respectively belonging or in any wise appertaining
unto the said Edmund Boddicott his heirs and assigns for ever

I
give devise and bequeath to my Nephew William Banks all that
my Orchard or Peice or Parcell of Garden Ground lying and being
at the upper end of the half Acre near Brentford Butts in New
Brentford aforesaid now in the occupation of Christian Brown and
also all those my two several Messuages or Tenements with the
YardsGardens outhouses and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto
belonging Scituate and being in the half acre in New Brentford
aforesaid now in the several Tenures or Occupations of M[aster]r George
Fowler and M[aste]r Heath Pipe maker To hold the said peice or
parcell of Garden Ground and two severall Messuages or Tenements
with all ways Passages rights members and appurtenances
whatsoever thereunto respectively belonging unto my said Nephew
William Banks and his heirs and assigns for ever But in Case
he should happen to dye without leaving Issue of his body lawfully
begotten Then I give and devise all and singular the said premisses
with their and every of their appurtenances to my own right
heirs for ever

I give and bequeath to my Neice Anne Pinfold
the sum of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great
Britain to be paid unto her within Twelve months next after
my decease

I give and bequeath to my Neice Susannah Boddicott
the sum of one hundred pounds of like lawfull money to be paid in
like lawfull manner

I also give and bequeath to my said Neice
Susannah Boddicott all and singular my wearing Cloath? ??
both Linnen woollen and Silken a Ruby Rose ring set Round with
Diamonds my two small Flowered Damask Table Clothes and
Twelve of the same Flower'd Damask Napkins one Fine holland?
Sheet and a pair of Fine holland Pillow*?

I give and bequeath
to my Aunt Nellams a Small Diamond Ring with a Ruby on each
Side

I give and bequeath to my aunt Sandford a Ring with a
Large Ruby ^ on each side of it and a Mourning ring with a Stone
in it and three Silver Tea Spoons marked with an S:

I Give and bequeath to my Cousin Thomas Nellams, GrandSon of my

said Aunt Nellams five Guineas to be paid into his Fathers
hands to his use within twelve months next after my decease and
as to all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Chattels
Moneys and Securities for moneys Plate Rings and personal
Estate whatsoever or wheresoever of what nature kind or quality
soever the same be after payment of my Debts Legacys and
Funeral Expenses)

I give and bequeath to my said Nephews
Edmund Boddicott and William Banks to be equally divided
between them and

I do hereby nominate and appoint them
Joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament and I doe
hereby revoke and make void all former Will or Wills by me
at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be and
contain my last Will and Testament

In Witness whereof I have
to this my last Will and Testament contained in one sheet of
paper sett my hand and Seal this first day of May in the Ninth
Year of the Reigne of our Sovereigne Lord King George the
Second and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred
Thirty Six – Sarah Boddicott. Signed & Sealed & Published and declared
by the said Testatrix Sarah Boddicott as and for her last Will and
Testament in the presence of us who at her request and in her
presence have subscribed our Names as Witnesses hereunto. Thomas
Nellams, William Tame, Silv:Goodfellow

Be it known that the above named Sarah Boddicott the
Testatrix did Signe Seal and republish her above written last Will and
Testament in the presence of us who have Subscribed our Names
as Witnesses hereuto in the presence of the said Testatrix at Old
Brentford this Twelfth day of May One Thousand Seven hundred and
Thirty Six — Sarah Boddicott — Sarah Caton Silv:Goodfellow
Adams Stomborough.

This will was proved at London the Twenty Seventh
day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand & Seven hundred
Thirty Seven before the worshipfull Thomas Walker Doctor of Laws
Surrogate to the right worshipfull John Bettesworth Doctor also of
Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of
Canterbury lawfully constituted by Edmund Boddicott and William
Banks the Executors named in the said Will To whom Administration
was granted of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits
of the said deceased being first Sworn duly to Administer./.Ex:d
