This is a transcription of the register copy of the will of Thomas Hudson Bateman of Halton Park, Lancashire. Thomas wrote his will on 4 September 1861, and it remained unrevised until his death on 11 November 1869. The administration of his estate was granted on 5 April 1871 to his deceased wife's nephew, there being no closer relative. The will was proved at the Principal Probate Registry. [1]

I Thomas Hudson Bateman
of Halton Park in the Parish of Halton in the County of Lancaster Esquire do hereby
revoke all Wills Codicils and Testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and do
publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament I give devise and bequeath
and in exercise of every power or authority appoint unto and to the use of my dear wife
her heirs executors administrators and assigns absolutely All the real and personal
estate whatsoever and wheresoever over which I have any disposing power and I
appoint my said Wife sole Executrix of this my Will In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand this fourth day of September 1861 - Thomas Hudson
Bateman - Signed published and declared by the said Testator as and for his
last Will and Testament in the presence of us (being present at the same time) who in
his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereto set our names
as witnesses - Thos. Swainson Sol[icitor] Lancaster - Thom: R Hargreaves

On the 5th April 1871 Adm[instrati]on ( with the will Will annexed) of the personal estate
and effects of Thomas Hudson Bateman late of Halton Park, in the Parish of
Halton in the County of Lancaster Esqr. deceased who died on the 11th November
1869 at Halton Park aforesaid a Widower without Child or Parent Brother or Sister
Uncle or Aunt Nephew or Niece or Cousin German [2] was granted to Thomas Leach
Esqre Barrister at Law the lawful Attorney of John Underwoood Champain (now on
active service in India) the person appointed by the Right Honorable James Plaisted
Baron Penzance the Judge of Her Majesty's Court of Probate by virtue of the powers
vested in him by the 73rd Section of the Court of Probate Act of 1857 to be the
Administrator (with the Will annexed) of the personal estate and effects of the said
deceased for this use and benefit and until he shall duly apply for and obtain Letters
of Administration (with the said Will annexed) of the personal estate and effects of
the said deceased to be granted to him he the said Thomas Leach having been first
sworn Julia Margaret Bateman the Wife of the said deceased the sole Executrix
and Universal Legatee named in the said Will having died in the lifetime of the
said deceased.
