This is a transcription of the original will of Thomas Porter, husbandman of Long Sutton, Hampshire. Written on 26 June 1557 and proved at Winchester 17 July 1557[1]

In the name of god Amen the xxvjth day of June In the yere of our Lord god a thoussand
fyve hundrethe fyftie and sevyn I Thomas porter of the p[ar]rishe of longsutton in the
Countie of Sut[ampton]t Husbandman being sycke in body and whole of mynd & of good memo[rie]
Do make & ordayne this my p[re]sent Testame[n]t and last wyll in man[ner] & forme folowying
first I bequne the my soule to Almyghtie god my maker & Redemer and I desire the
blessed lady Ceynt mary the virgyn w[ith] all the holye Company of hevyn to pray for
me and my body to be buryd with[in] the Churche yard of the p[ar]rishe churche of longsutton
Also I geve and bequethe to the Cathedrall Churche of the Trynytie of wynchest[er] iyd Also
I geve & bequethe to the p[ar]rishe Churche of longsutton one ewe sheepe Also I geve and
bequethe to Alyes port[er] my Daught[er] iiij ewe sheepes and a heckffer Also I geve & bequethe
to mary porter my daught[er] iiij ewe sheepes and a heckffer Also I geve & bequethe to grace
porter my Daught[er] iiij ewe sheepes & a bullocke of a yere old Also I geve & bequethe to Rose porter my
daugh[ter] iiij ewe sheepes and a calfe of this yere Also I geve to grace port[er]& to Rose
porter my youngest doughters by this my present Testame[n]t & last wyll vjs vijd yearlye
for the terme of xxti yeres to be leavyd & to be taken owte of my free land namyd gaftlong illegible
lying and beyng in the p[ar]rishe of Odiham towardes the bryngyng up of them bothe
Also I wyll that yf any of my said ij dought[er]s do departe owte of this present worldat any tyme w[ithin]
the space of xxti yeres Then I wyll yther parte so departe shall remayne to her Cyst[er] beyng
Alyve and in case they dep[ar]te bothe owte of this present world at Any tyme before
the xxti yere be endyd Then I wyll theyre p[ar]tes so dep[ar]ted shall remayne to stephyn
porter my son Also I wyll by this my present Testame[n]t & last wyll that alyes porter
my wyffe shall have and Inioye my Indenture hold called gaston lying & beyng in the
p[ar]rishe of Odiham durynge yeres of the said lease / Also I wyll that stephyn porter
my son shall sow at the next season ensuyng ij akers of wheate one aker of barley
and one aker of otes The Resydew of all and singuler my goodes not bequethed
my dettes payd my funerall expences made & payd and all these my bequestes
fulfilled I do geve frelye to Alys porter my wyffe whome I do make and
ordayne my sole Executrix of this my present Testame[n]t and last wyll / and I wyll
that stephyn Terry & Robert Terry of the parrishe of longsutton be my ovyrseers of this
