The Will of William Harwarde, Canon of Windsor, was written on 9 April 1589 and proved in London, Prerogative Court of Canterbury on 22 July 1589. Administration granted to Christofer Osborne with power reserved to Peter Osborne.[1]

In the name of god amen the ninthe daye of
Aprill in the one and thirtieth yeare of the Raigne of the Soveraigne Ladye Elizabethe
by the grace of god quene of England Frannce and Ireland defendor of the faithe &c
I William Harwarde clerke of one of the Cannons of the kinges chappell of
St George within his Castle of Windsor in the Countie of Barkes beinge sick and
weake of body but sounde and perfecte of remembrannce Lawde and prayse be given

to almightie god for the same doe make ordeyne and declare this my last will and testament in manner
and forme followinge that is to saye First and principally I recom[m]end my sowle to almightie god humbly
besechinge his eternall maiestie to pardon and forgive me all my synnes thoroughe the deathe and merittes
of Jhesus christ our full perfect and only redeemer and to endue me withe grace and patience in
all temptations in this worlde bothe bodely and ghostly and to strengthen me in the faithe of the holy
Catholiq[ue] and apostoliq[ue] churche so as I may live and dye a member of the same And that whatso=
ever duties lackethe in me by some ignorance frailtie or necessitie may be effectually perfor=
med by his mercy and goodnes so as in the end I may obteyne everlastinge life in the kingdom of
heaven in and by christ Item I will that my bodye shall be decently buried at Windsor or else
in the parishe of St Clementes the Danes without temple barr London that is to say at
whiche of them I shall in my life time appoynte Item I will and bequeath unto my daughter
Anne Harward fower hundred and fiftie poundes to be paide unto her at her age of eightene
yeares if she marrie with the consent of my executors And for the more spedy better and
more convenient payinge levyinge and haveinge of the saide fower hundred and fiftie poundes
whearas Thomas Tasboroughe esquire is to paye unto me the some of fower hundred
poundes at severall dayes as by certeyne trpertite Indentures appearethe whiche fower
hundred poundes together withe other fiftie poundes parcell of the some of one hundred poundes
whiche shall be due to be paide unto me by Gabriell Redman for the redemption of Brydge
mylne in Wickham in the Countie of Bucks at the feast of Saint Michaell which shall
be in the yeare of our lorde god one thousand five hundred fower score and tenne I will shall be
Levied withe as muche convenient speede as may be for the payment of the said legacie
of fower hundred poundes and fiftie poundes so by me bequeathed to my saide daughter Anne
And I will and my mynde is the saide fower hundred and fiftie poundes shall be receyved and
kepte by Peter Osborne of London esquier and Christofer Osborne gentleman sonne
of the same Peter or the survivor of them or by their assignes as the same shall growe
due to be paide untill the same fower hundred and fiftie poundes shall be due to the said
Anne my daughter by vertue of this my last will and testament And if my said daughter
Anne shall happen to decease before such time as her legacie to her by me bequeathed
by vertue of this my last will and testament shall be due to be payde or before her
daye of marriage Then I will and my mynde is that her saide portion of fower hundred
and fiftie poundes shall be equally devided and distributed to and amongest the residue of my
children then livinge at the time of suche her decease as aforesaide And further I will
that Robert Nicholls of Eaton in the Countie of Bucks gentleman shall have [...] the
bringinge upp of my sonne Robert Harwarde for and duringe his minoritie Item I give
and bequeathe unto my brother Nicholas Harward tenne poundes of Lawfull money
of England Item I will give and bequeathe unto my coosens Anne and Margaret Harwarde
the some of tenne poundes to be equally devided betweene them towardes their preferment
in marriage which some is to be receyved and had of George Hill and Richard Jacobe of St
Clementes the danes aforesaide Item I give and bequeathe to my sonne Walter Harward all my
bookes concerninge Phisick my case of dagges my valense for a bedd of needle work my second curtens
for a bedd of yallowe and purple sarsenett the bedsted in the littell chamber at Windsor withe
the featherbed boulster pillowes blankettes my second coverlet and a payer of sheetes a quishion
of nedlework my second curtins and two stooles havinge their covers of nedlework item I give to
my saide daughter Anne my best featherbed withe the bouulster at Windsor with the grene taffeta
curtins and valence for a bed and my best coverlet of arrace with a payer of blankettes a
payer of my best sheetes and the channgeable silke kirtle that was her mothers and a littell
quishion of redd velvett wraught withe goulde Item I give unto my sonne Paull Harward
the presse of waynscott in my littell chamber at Windsor the greate brasse panne and the
greatest brasse pott whiche weare his mothers Item I give to my sonne William
Harward my greatest iron caske withe the barr of Iron to the same belonginge
within the kitchen of my howse at Windsor and my second greate brasse pott

Newcombe my late servannt six shillinges eighte pence Item I give to my father in lawe John

Robert Bangor clerk five loades likewise of suche wood as was falne this last yeare
for my owne use Item I give to Christian Madacke one of my guilte spoones Item I give
to the poore of the parishe of Farneham Ryall in the countie of Bucks a quarter of
meslyn and six poundes thirtene shillinges and fower pence in money and fower poundes which
Mr Robert Drury esquier of Hedgley owethe me to be distributed amongest them by the
discreation of William Umbervile gentleman my saide sonne Walter and Thomas Perryman

therof as he shall think good at the price the same shall be so valued And the residue
therof to be sowlde towardes the discharge of my funeralls Item I will and my mynde
is that my executors of this my last will and testament hereafter named shall be allowed and
payde all suche charges and somes of money as they or any of them shall laye forthe disburse or
susteyne for my funeralls and for and concerninge any sute or sutes by my saide executors to be
comenced had ot taken agaynst any person or persons whatsoever for or touchinge any
debt dutie some or somes of money to me any waye due or by me bequeathed Item I will and
my desyre is that my brother Thomas Goodyer gentleman have the over sighte and
gardianshipp of my saide sonne Paull Harward till he come to the age of one and
twentie yeares Item I will that my said sonnes Richard and William Harward the younger Item
I will and ordeyne the forenamed peter Osborne and Christofer Osborne his sonne
executors of this my last will and testament Item I revoke and utterly make frustrate all for=
mer wills and testaments by me heretofore made And I will that this and none other
shall be my last will and testament In witnes whereof I the saide William Harward
the elder have hereto sett my hand and seale yeaven the daye and yeare first above
