Will of William Isgrig (abt.1680-bef.1755) dated 4 Oct 1749

“In the name of God Amen I William Isgrig of the parish of Saint Luke in the county of Middlesex gentleman being in good health of Body and of Sound Mind Memory and understanding praised be almighty God for the same but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life do make my last Will and Testament in manner following first and principally [?] my soul into the hands of almighty God my creator and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named and as for such Worldly Estate as it hath pleased almighty God to bless me with I give and dispose thereof as followeth

whereas before my intermarriage with my loving wife abigail Isgrig I did enter into a Bond conditional for payment of Twenty Pounds a year to my said loving wife after my decease for and during the term of her natural life in case she shall happen to survive me now my Will and mind is that the said twenty pounds a year shall be paid unto my said loving wife after my decease from time to time according to the condition of the said Bond also I give and bequeath unto my said loving wife the sum of ten pounds for mourning

also I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Margaret Dukeson wife of George Dukeson the sum of two hundred pounds

also I give and bequeath unto Sarah Lee the sum of ten pounds

also I give and bequeath unto Mrs Anne Powell now living in old street in the parish of Saint Luke aforesaid the sum of five guineas

also I give and bequeath unto my friend William Woolley of the said parish of Saint Luke in the County of Middlesex [?] one Guinea to buy him a ring

and all the rest and residue of my Estate Goods Chattels and Assetts whatsoever and wheresoever of what nature or kind soever after my just debts the legacies hereintofore given and bequeathed & my funeral expenses and the charges of proving thus my last Will shall be fully paid and satisfied I give devise and bequeath unto my grandsons George Dukeson son of my said daughter Margaret Dukeson and William Isgrig and Michael Isgrig sons of my late son William Isgrig aforesaid equally to be divided between them share and share alike or to such of them as shall be living at the time of my decease and I do hereby make constitute and appoint my said daughter Margaret Dukeson sole executrix of this my last Will and testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made and do declare those presents to be my last Will and testament in witness whereof I have to this my last Will and testament out set my hand and seal the fourth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty nine and in the twenty third year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second King of Great Britain France and Ireland Defender of the faith…

Affidavit

The 11th day of December 1755

Which day appeared personally George Dowxell of the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the County of Middlesex Glover who being sworn upon the Holy Evangelists to depose the truth did depose and say as follows to with that he this deponent did intermarry with Margaret Isgrig the natural and lawfull Daughter of William Isgrig formerly of the parish of Saint Luke in the County of Middlesex but late of the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in the same County Gentleman deceased and that having viewed and perused the last Will and Testament of the said William Isgrig deceased hereunto annexed beginning thus In the Name of God Amen I William Isgrig of the Parish of Saint Luke in the county of Middlesex gentleman being in good health of Body and of Sound Mind Memory and understanding praised be almighty God for the same but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life do make my last Will and Testament in manner following and ending thus In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and testament out set my hand and seal the fourth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty nine and in the twenty third year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second King of Great Britain France and Ireland Defender of the faith and thus subscribed Wm Isgrig in which Will this Deponents late wife Margaret Dewxell by the name of Margaret Dukeson is the sole executrix and this Deponents son William Dewxell who is Grandson of the said William Isgrig is by the said Will appointed one of the residuary Legatees by the name of George Dukeson and this deponent further snaith that the said William Isgrig had no Grandson living at the time of the date of the said Will at his death by the name of George Dukeson and therefore this Deponent verily believes that the said deceased meant and intended his Grandson William Dewxell who is this Deponents son by the said Margaret Dewxell who was Daughternof the said William Isgrig deceased to be one of his residuary legatees and that he was inserted in the said Will by mistake by the name of George Dukeson and this deponent further saith that he verily believes that the said deceased by the Appountment of his Daughter Margaret Dukeson to be Sole Executrix of his said Wife he meant and intended this Deponents late wife Margaret Dowxell. Same day the said George Dowxall was sworn to the truth of the above written affidavit before me and Coitee[?] Durarel Surrogate present with the sign & [?] publish

Probate

On the Eleventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty five administration with the Will annexed of the Goods Chattels and Credits of William Isgrig late of the Parish of St Leonard Shoreditch in the County of Middlesex deceased was granted to William Dowxell the Grandson and one of the residuary legatees appointed in the said Will by the name of George Dukeson for that Margaret Dowxell Wife of George Dowxell called in the Will Margaret Dukeson the daughter of the said deceased and sole executrix of the Testator having sworn first sworn duly to administer &xd.
