Will of William Kendall 1638
This is a transcription of the register office copy of the will[1] of William Kendall (1576-1638), written on the 6 February 1637 and proved in the Archdeaconry Court of Norwich on 3rd May 1638 by Elizabeth Kendall his relict.

I William Kendall of Brynton
in the County of Norf[olk] husbandman beinge
weake in body but in p[er]fect memory thankes
be unto the Almighty therefore doe ordaine
& make this my last will & Testament in man[n]or
& forme followinge
First I bequeath my soule
into the hands of God my Creat[or] hopinge
to be saved through the meritts of my Lord
& Savio[r] Jesus Christ & my body to be buried
in the churchyeard at the discrec[i]on of my
wife & as concerninge yt & porcion of
Coppyhold Lands & Tenem[ents] w[hic]h God hath
lent me lyinge in Brynton & Thornage
& Skitts ? those excepted my will & mynde is
yt Richard Kendall my oldest son shall
have & inioy them by & after the decease
of Elizabeth Kendall my wife to him * his
heires & uppon condic[i]on notw[i]thstandinge
yt he the s[ai]d Richard shall pay or cause
to be paid unto his Brothers & Sisters
Hereunder mencondd the inst sum[m]e of

Twooscore &fift teen pounds of currant English
money un manner & forme followinge yt
is to say w[i]thin one yeare after the decease
of Elizabeth Kendall my wyfe unto Brid
=get Kendall his sister ten pounds of
currant English money in the South
porch of the p[ar]ish church of Brynton
aforesaid & unto William Kendall his
Brother ten pounds more of like cur
=rant money in the said place two
yeares after my said wyfes decease
& unto Thomas Kendall his other brother

my said wyfes decease & unto Rachell
Kendall his Sister ten pounds more of
like currant mony in the same place
within four yeares after my wives decease
& then againe unto bridget his said Sister
five yeares after my said wives death

of Brynton ten pounds more of like
currant money & also unto his said
Brother Will[ia]m Kendall ten poundes
more of like currant money inthe said
place within six yeares after my wives
decease & unto Thomas Kendall his othe
Brother five pounds of like currant
money in the said place sevean yeares
after my said wives decease & lastly
unto Rachell his Sister ten poundes
more of like currant money Eight
yeares after my said wives decease

in the said porch & if it shall happen my s[ai]d
Son Richard Kendall shall make default by
not payinge any of the said sum[m]es of mony
in p[ar]t or in whole on the said dayes & places
in w[hi]ch they ought to have been paid Then my
mynde & will is yt Will[ia]m my s[ai]d Son shall enter
uppon my s[ai]d Lands & Tenem[en]ts & have & inioy
them to him & his heyres p[er]forming the same
condicions yt his Brother Richard ought to
have p[er]formed & if he my s[ai]d Son Will[ia]m shall
make default in p[ar]te or in whole of any of the
s[ai]d paym[ents] which were not p[er]formed by his
'Brother Richard in man[n]or & forme aforesaid
Then my will & meaninge is yt Thomas Kendall
my Son shall have & inioy my s[ai]d Lands &
Tenem[en]ts [illegible due to bleed through] p[er]forminge the
same paym[en]ts which his Brothers left unpaid
& if hee my s[ai]d Son Thomas shall refuse to p[er]=
=forme the same condic[i]ons which are how
required by him then my will& minde is
yt all my s[ai]d Land & Tenem[en]ts formerly be=
=queathed shall be equallu distributed &
devided amongst my three Daughters
Bridgett Kendall Ann Kendall & Rachell Ken
=dall & to their heyres for ever & I have
given ....... of those my Lands & Tenem[en]ts
to the use of this my last will And further
as concerninge my houshold stuff & all
other my moveable goods whatsoever my
mynde & will is yt Elizabeth Kendall my
wyfe shall have them to dispose of att
her pleasure payinge my debts & seeinge
my body decently brought to the ground
& buried & I have made my said wyfe
