About the Project

The Williams Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Williams name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Williams name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Williamses), by time period (18th Century Williamses), or by topic (Williams DNA, Williams Occupations, Williams Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

I found àn old picture of a woman and the handwriting appears to read Mina (I am guessing her name was probably Wilhemina) and it looks like her last name is Williams. She was apparently the gf of my Uncle James. The picture was probably taken in the 1950s.... I would love to share this in the hopes of putting this in the hands of a family member.

I am interested in joining the Williams Name Study. My great grandmother's maiden name was Williams and I have been having trouble continuing from my 5th great grandfather Noah Williams (Williams-130870) who appears to have been born in Virginia around 1800. I was wondering if you might be able to help.
