Name

First called "Bates Corners" in 1835 and officially incorporated as a village within Winchester township in 1850. The settlement became known as “West Winchester” in 1855 (The original Winchester was east of the village and later renamed Chesterville.). The "West" was dropped in 1884 with the establishment of the Canadian Pacific Railway and in 1998 it became part of the newly-formed Township of North Dundas.
