Biography

Rebecca was born in 1859. She was the daughter of George Spackman and Sarah Southam. ^[1] She married George Murray in 1886 ^[2] She passed away in 1932 age 73. ^[3]

MRS. MURRAY, AGED 73 YEARS. The death occurred at an early hour on Saturday morning of Mrs. Rebecca Murray, who had resided in Otaki for many years, during which time she made many friends. The late Mrs. Murray, who had been in indifferent health for some years, had been a semi-invalid for 30 years, but despite this fact she was of a bright and genial nature, always willing to help whereever and whenever possible. The late Mrs. Murray, who was born at Silverstream, was 73 years of age and had spent practically all her life in Otaki. Her husband died some four years ago, while her brother, Mr. Alf. Spackman, is at present in a serious state of health. On Tuesday last Mrs. Murray was in her usual health but on the following day collapsed and later became unconscious. . She passed away peacefully in the presence of members of her family. Those left to mourn their loss are Mr. Lin Murray (address unknown), and Mr. Malcolm Murray (Wellington), Mrs. Porteous (Wellington), and Mrs. Petrowski (Waipawa), for whom much sympathy is felt. The funeral of the late Mrs. Murray took place on Sunday afternoon., the remains being laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. There was a representative following, while several lovely floral tributes were placed on the coffin. The Rev. Father Tymons conducted a service at St. Mary's Church and also at the graveside. Mrs. Fisher ably presided at the organ.^[4]
