Biography

Ruthanna (Spahr) McKinley has German Roots.
Ruthanna (Spahr) McKinley was a Pennsylvanian.

Ruthanna, daughter of William Jesse Spahr and Emma Spangler, was born 29 September 1924 in Dover Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[1] She grew up on the farm in Dover Township owned by her parents William (age 54, farmer) and Emma Spahr (51), where the household in 1930 also included Ruthanna (5), and her siblings Harry Andrew (29, day laborer), Mary Elizabeth (25), Emma Jane (19), Morgan Eugene (16), Rosa Viola (12) and Lloyd Clayton (9).[2]

Although many of her siblings had established their own residences by 1940, Ruthanne (15) and her brothers Harry A. (40, house painter) and Lloyd C. (19, farmhand) remained in the same house with their parents William J. (age 65, farmer) and Emma (62) in 1940.[3] The record shows that William and Emma had each completed six years of formal education; Lloyd and Ruthanne, eight; and Harry had finished the fifth grade.[3]

On 22 May 1948 in Thomasville, Jackson Township, York County, she married Sterling Eugene McKinley,[1] son of Emory Latimore McKinley and Grace Mae Margaret Deardorff.

Ruthanna died 18 February 1988 and was buried at Paradise Holtzschwamm Lutheran Cemetery in Thomasville, Paradise Township, York County.[1]
