The SPARKS QUARTERLY, March 1994, Whole No. 165, at page 4270, states: James Sparks, son of Ephriam and Charlotte Sparks, was born about 1810 in Virginia. He was married to a widow named Temperance (Lusher) Spencer, and they had eight children: John, Phoebe, Charlotte, Nancy, Ephriam, Cordelia, Temperance, and Eveline.

  • Ephraim and Charlotte Sparks apparently died between 1850 and 1860. They were the parents of eight children, three sons and five daughters, according to the census records and information given by descendants. We have been able to identify all of them except three daughters.

1. Mary Ann Sparks, daughter of Ephraim and Charlotte Sparks, was born about 1803 in Lee County, Virginia. She had seven children: Harvey, Solomon, John D., Tobias, Margaret, Phoebe, and Lucy.

2. A daughter whom we have been unable to identify was born about 1805. She may have been the Nancy Sparks, born 1800-10, listed on the 1830 census of Lee County, Virginia.

3. Phoebe Sparks, daughter of Ephraim and Charlotte Sparks, was born about 1807 in Virginia. She was married to John D. Spencer, and they had seven children: Nancy, Josiah, Charlotte, John, David, Issac, and George.

4. A daughter whom we have been unable to identify was born about 1809.

5. James Sparks, son of Ephraim and Charlotte Sparks, was born about 1810 in Virginia. He was married to a widow named Temperance (Lusher) Spencer, and they had eight children: John, Phoebe, Charlotte, Nancy, Ephraim, Cordelia, Temperance, and Eveline.

6. William T. Sparks, son of Ephraim and Charlotte Sparks, was born about 1813 in Virginia. He was married to Minerva Jane Johnson, and they had nine children: Benjamin, Abby Jane, Margaret, Charlotte, Mary, Ephraim, William, Sylvester, and John.

7. A daughter whom we have been unable to identify was born about 1816.

8. Ephraim Sparks, Jr., son of Ephraim and Charlotte Sparks, was born about 1818 in Virginia. His wife was named Sarah, and they had at least four children: Martha Ann, Nancy, Jeptha, and Armilda.

9. James Sparks was born in 1810. He married Temperance "Tempe" Lusher Spencer on September 26, 1833. They had eight children in 22 years. He died on August 26, 1870, in Wolfe, Kentucky, at the age of 60, and was buried in Torrent, Kentucky. Life Story
