Biography

Hardy Sparks was born on May 23, 1783 in Wilkes County (now Ashe County), North Carolina. He is the son of Matthew Sparks and Sarah Thompson. [1] [2]

Hardy was probably the youngest of the thirteen children of Matthew and Sarah. He was born just about the time that his parents left Wilkes County to move to Oconee River Valley in northeast Georgia where they settled near the present-day town of Athens. [3]

After the death of his father in November 1793, Hardy probably made his home with one of his brothers. He grew to manhood in Georgia. [4]

Hardy Sparks married Mary M. Hale circa 1805 in probably Georgia. [5]

The 1820 Federal Census listed (Males - 26 thru 44), Hardy as living with his wife (Females - 26 thru 44), Mary, his sons (Males - Under 10), Isaac and unknown son and (Males 10 thru 15), Isaiah Hale, and his daughters (Females - Under 10), unknown daughter and (Females - 10 thru 15), unknown daughter in Hickman County, Tennessee. [6]

The 1830 Federal Census listed (Males - 40 thru 49), Hardy as living with his wife (Females - 30 thru 39), Mary, his sons (Males - 5 thru 9), William G., (Males 10 thru 14), Isaac and (Males 20 thru 29), Isaiah Hale and his daughters (Females - Under 5), Mary Anne "Polly" Sparks and Parthenia Sparks in Carroll County, Tennessee. [7]

Hardy moved his family to Lafayette County, Mississippi, about 1835. [8]

The 1840 Federal Census listed (Males - 50 thru 59), Hardy as living with his wife (Females - 40 thru 49), Mary, his son (Males - 15 thru 19), William G., and his daughters (Females - 15 thru 19), Mary Anne "Polly" and (Females - 10 thru 14), Parthenia in Lafayette County, Mississippi. [9]

The 1845 Mississippi Substitutes Index listed Hardy as living in Lafayette County, Mississippi. [10]

The 1850 Federal Census listed Hardy as living with his wife Mary in Washburn Township, Scott, Arkansas. His occupation was listed as cabinet maker. [11]

Hardy passed away circa 1845 in probably Scott County, Arkansas. [12]
