Biography

Jackie Sparks Brooke was the youngest of a multitude of children. I have heard that my grandfather had 10, 13, and 17 children. He had three wives. He married and had more children when each passed, with Jackie being the youngest. ^[1][2]

Jackie Sparks married Thomas Brooke 30 Sept 1961. They were married in Adams County, Ohio. They raised three daughters: Amy Brooke and Sara Brooke (identical twins) and "Cathy" Mary Brooke in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Immediately following their marriage, Jackie and Tom lived at Fort Hood in Texas. After Tom left the military, they moved back to the Cincinnati, Ohio area. They lived there until 1988.

She did secretarial work at Newberry Construction, MacGregor-Goldsmith Sporting Goods, and General Electric. All were in the Cincinnati area.^[3]

Though Jackie and Tom raised all three girls, in 2021, Amy realized the amount of DNA between Amy and Cathy was half-sibling rather than a full-sibling. Further investigation and DNA through Ancestry showed that Amy and Sara were the daughters of Nelson Fridman. It appears that Jackie and Nelson met while working at MacGregor-Goldsmith. However, it is unknown if anyone knew of Amy and Sara's parentage until 2021.^[4]

In 1988, Jackie, Tom, and Cathy moved to Kobe, Japan, and lived there for many years. ^[5]

Jackie was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1990 while visiting family in Cincinnati, Ohio. She remained in Ohio for treatment until April of 1991. At that point, she returned to Japan. In June 1991, she went into a coma when cancer caused swelling in her brain. She came out of the coma and moved back to the United States for more treatment. ^[6]She died on January 1, 1992. ^[7][8][9]

Jackie is buried in Peebles, Ohio in Locust Grove Cemetery. She buried is in Lot 26, Grave B. To find the grave, use gate 6.

Jackie and Tom were on difficult terms at the time of her death. They had had a difficult married life. Earlier in her life, during a particularly difficult time, Jackie had purchased a plot next to Tom's brother Bob's ex-wife, Betty Uldene Ward Brooke Lindsey. It was intended that they be buried next to each other. However, Betty is buried elsewhere.
