Elizabeth was born as an illegitimate daughter to Ruth Sparks in the 4th quarter of 1860 which is when her birth was registered at the UK Government Record Office. A few months after her birth, Elizabeth and her mother were resident at the Chard Union Workhouse as detailed in the census of 1861. It is not known who her father was or whether her mother was resident at the Workhouse at the time of her birth. Elizabeth used her mother's maiden name of Sparks.
Elizabeth's sister Hannah was born in 1870 while Elizabeth and her mother Ruth were resident at the Chard Union Workhouse. They can all be found together there at the 1871 census.
Elizabeth's mother Ruth married Robert Chapple in 1876 who sadly died in 1879.
In the 1881 census record, Elizabeth together with her Mother Ruth Chapple her younger sister Hannah Sparks and her Aunt Elizabeth Sparks were living together at Broadway Hill in Somerset.
Further work is required to complete Elizabeth's Biography.
