For instance, I have seen a marriage record of Matilda Sparling and Thomas Alexander which states that they were married in Noble, Ohio in 1858 and not in Adare. I can find no record of their being married in Adare. Also they have a son Wyndham born in 1859 in Ohio. Also other records suggest that Thomas was born in the USA and not Ireland.
As regards John Sparling, other family profiles suggest he died in Canada in 1868 and not in Ireland.

Having read the biographies on the two profiles and the relevant pages of "Over The Hills and Far Away" (starting on page 33), I have no doubt whatsoever that these two profiles represent the same man. His widow (Sparling-588), who was also his second cousin, "eventually emigrated to St Marys, Ontario to join [their children] John, Loftus, Suzanna and Matilda", who "had gone out earlier to join their uncles (Mary's brothers, Christopher, William and Peter)". Matilda clearly moved on to Ohio, where she married.
Without seeing a source, I'm not sure which John died in Canada in 1868. The subject of the merge died in Maryville in County Tipperary in 1838 and was buried just across the River Shannon at Killaloe in County Clare. His son John moved on to Missouri, where he died in 1871.
One of the duplicate profiles is already Mrs. Doherty's father; the other is already married to Mrs. Doherty's mother.
