Biography

Mary (Spaulding) McGuinness was born in Van Diemen's Land (1826-1856)

Mary Jane Spaulding is the bastard daughter of James Spaulding and Margaret Newman. She was conceived while Newman was married to Robert Wright.[1] Her mother passed away soon after the birth, and she was raised by Spaulding and his wife Abigail.

In 1857 she married Joseph McGuinness at Sorell, Colony of Tasmania.[2]

She was a storekeepers wife.[3]

She died at 41 from phthisis (pulmonary tuberculosis or a similar progressive wasting disease).[3]

Death registration states she was born in England, which is false. The book Kindred Connections has the correct data. No birth showing in TAS BDM index, which isn't unusual for the time.

Baptism: 15 JAN 1837. New Town, Hobart, TAS, AUS. [4]
