Biography

Spearman, Thomas Service Virginia   Rank: Patriotic Service, Birth: CIRCA 1740  Virginia Death: 1800 Newberry District South Carolina. Service Source: Abercrombie & Slatten, VA Rev Pub Claims Vol 1 PP 192, 197, 200, 206, 208, Service Description: 1) Furnished Supplies. [1][2]

Thomas was born in 1740. He was the son of Thomas Spearman. He was mentioned in his Uncle John Spearman's Will as being Job Spearman's son and if anything should happen to his aunt Susannah Spearman est.1710 that he and his cousin will get the 200 acres that John left Susannah Spearman his uncle James Spearman's son John Spearman will have to split it , now this is what I understand by reading the Will and in this Thomas Will he list many of his children he was also married three times it seems they are 11 children prior to the Revolution a bond was taken in 1777 in 1785 the agent for the company having been informed that Speerman was about to remove out of state he then moved to Newberry County, South Carolina, Geneologist page 102 indicates that Thomas probably left Virginia 1785 Elizabeth Catlett his first wife had passed before 1784 and he and Margaret Rutherford on may 11, 1784 sold land to a Thomas Pitt this information is in the Essex County Deeds... Thomas Spearman was not on the 1800 Census of Newberry County of South Carolina, the Newberry Census includes four Spearman families two Edmonds probably uncle and nephew James and Robert his son John served in the Revolutionary War received a grant of land in Jasper County, Georgia and settled there son William is found in Kentucky in 1798.

He names 9 children in the will. The children of his first wife are William, Elizabeth, John, James, Mary, Edmund. The children of Margaret are Sary, Robert, Samuel

Hello Donnie, I think we have a few boo-boos in our profile for Thomas Spearman (I think the profile name is Thomas Job Spearman, Jr.) Here's why I think so: I have the following information: Thomas Spearman ( born about 1740-died 1800) was married 3 times 1. Elizabeth Catlett; their children were: 1. Elizabeth Spearman-married Wm. Powers 2. John Spearman3-31-1764-married Anne Dawson Toombs 3. James Spearman 4. Mary Spearman-married Samuel Yeargan 5. Edmund Spearman-married Susan Adkisson/Atkinson? She is called Ann in his will in 1799.

2. Margaret Rutherford, Smith, or Dishman? Not sure what the last name is. Their chidren were:1. Sarah Rutherford Spearman-married John Adkisson/Atkinson, Jr. 2. Robert Smith Spearman 3. Samuel Dishman Spearman Third wife was Jane Wright. Their children were: 1. Ann Wisdom Spearman-married William Shelton 2. (Dr.) John Wesley Spearman-married Elizabeth Miller 3. Thomas William? Spearman-married Nancy Shelton

maybe we can figure this out if you take a look at this, or maybe your information is more accurate than mine.

I am also confused because I have 2 Thomas Job Spearmans. One is a junior and one a senior. The other Thomas I have is just Thomas, no middle name.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

Spearman-28 and Spearman-104 do not represent the same person because: Spearman-104 is the son of Spearman-28... they were both considered Thomas Spearman Jr.'s.
