He died at Walkers General Hospital, Shobota, Mississippi while in service of the Confederate Army, William Morrison Spearman volunteered for service very shortly after the war began, leaving his wife and two young daughters, He became ill while in Mississippi and returned home to recuperate, however, he returned to the Army in Mississippi before fully recover , The Confederate Army offered to return his remains to South Carolina for the sum of $25 ,However Susan's brother Sam advised her not to pay that extravagant a mount as she needed the money to feed her children, she always regretted that decision. He was the Son of Rev John and Margaret Beaty Spearman.
