Biography

David Spearman was born on the 20th of March, 1835, in Pickens County, South Carolina. David was the son of James Spearman and Ellender Roper.

David married Lucinda C. Moore in Shelby County, Alabama on the 25th of December, 1856. The marriage was preformed by Justice of the Peace E Burchfield.

David appears in the 1860 Federal census in Harpersville, Shelby County, Alabama, as head of the household. David Spearman's household appeared as follows: David Spearman, age 25; Lucinda Speaman age 19; and children: Martha Speaman age 3; and May J Speaman age 1.

David was age 23 when he enlisted as a private in Co. K, 31st Alabama Infantry in the Confederate Army on the 3rd of September, 1862 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. The record states that David: "never reported to the Co. since exchanged Sept. 25 [ink smear] 63 (In the woods)". The exchange in September 1863 was the exchange of Confederates who surrendered at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The record does not indicate that David re-joined his company.

David appears in the 1870 Federal census in Beat 17, Shelby County, Alabama, as head of the household. David Spearman's household appeared as follows [Note the census taker used initials for the majority of the household: David Spearman age 35; (female) L C age 30; (female) N E age 12; (female) M A age 9; (female) S F age 6; (male) Jas A. age 4; (female) R E age 1.

David appears in the 1880 Federal census in Yellow Leaf, Shelby County, Alabama, as head of the household. David Spearman's household appeared as follows: David Spearman age 45; Lucinda C. Spearman age 40; Martha A. Spearman age 18; Sarah F. Spearman age 16; James A. Spearman age 14; Roselender Spearman age 11; Susan C. Spearman age 8; Cela C. Spearman age 6; John W. Spearman age 5; and Clarissa L. Spearman age 3.

David appears in the 1900 Federal census in Precinct No. 9, Wilsonville, Shelby County, Alabama, as head of the household. David Spearman's household appeared as follows: David Spearman age 65; Loucinda Spearman age 60; John W Spearman age 23; and Alice Spearman age 15.

David appears in the 1910 Federal census in Precinct No. 9, Wilsonville, Shelby County, Alabama, as head of the household. David Spearman's household appeared as follows: David Spearman age 75; and Lucindia C Spearman age 70.

David appears in the 1920 Federal census in Precinct No. 9, Wilsonville, Shelby County, Alabama, as head of the household. David Spearman's household appeared as follows: David Spearman age 84; Loucindia E Spearman age 80; and Alfred M Walton age 40, son-in-law.

David died in Shelby County, Alabama on the 17th of July, 1926.

David was buried next to his wife Lucinda at Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery, Shelby County, Alabama.

David's obituary appeared in the July 29, 1926 issue of the Shelby County Reporter.
