Woman, 44, Says Husband, 24, Eloped With Her Daughter.
Asks police to search for man whom she succeeded in having discharged from Army.
Mrs. Julia Smith, 44 years old, of 1432 Sullivan avenue, today asked the police to search for her husband, William Patrick Smith, 24 years old, who, she says eloped Saturday night with her daughter Elsie Spearman, 18 years old, and left herself and 18-day-old baby and three other children without food or money. She told police she believed Smith and the girl had gone to Little Rock, Ark., where the girl's father, James Spearman, lives.
Mrs. Smith says she divorced Spearman about four years ago and a year later married Smith at Chattanooga, Tenn. She said Smith then was in the army, but that last summer she succeeded in getting a discharge for him. They moved to St. Louis three weeks ago, she said, and Smith got a job as a teamster.
She said Elsie had been in a home at Nashville, Tenn., but that after he has worked a few days, Smith went to a butcher in the neighborhood and borrowed $22, which he sent to the girl to come to St. Louis. She said that after the arrival of her daughter, Smith and the girl went around together.
